"Every Picture Tells a Story ... Don't it:" The Southern North Carolina Coast: Brunswick County | Eastern North Carolina Now

Southport has long been a port to many varieties of ships; however, while the Bald Head Island Ferry embarks from the quaint seaside village each day, the ocean going freighter only needs the deep mouth of the Cape Fear River for entry, which is southern vantage point of the Southport waterfront: Above and below.     photos by Stan Deatherage

The freighter negotiating the deep channel of the Cape Fear most definitely will dock this night at the State Port in Wilmington, North Carolina, which is just about 11 miles north up the storied river, and is still the largest port in the state: Above. These beautiful shops in this lovely seaside village will have to wait for my return to ply any coin from my narrow pockets. It's Sunday, it's late and our check-in time was some time earlier: Below.     photos by Stan Deatherage
