In Concert: The Good Lovelies - Harmony Regained on Main Street | Eastern North Carolina Now

The famous instrument swap: Sue (left), steps into her turn on the acoustic 6-string - above - while Caroline picks up the mandolin: Below.     photos by Stan Deatherage

The famous instrument swap continues: Sue and Caroline swap out so Sue can have her turn at the Mandolin: Above and below.     photos by Stan Deatherage

Caroline Brooks may be the most accomplished musician with the various string instruments; however, I couldn't really tell since the string instruments are used for basic accompaniment. It truly is their blended harmonies that are their branded gift that delivers their music. Caroline sings in the highest range of all her band-mates: Above. Sue Passmore, here on the percussion rattle (for lack of a better description) handles the mid-range of the harmonies: Below.     photos by Stan Deatherage

Why these two images? Quite possibly, I sense their expression of the reserved intensity of the moment: Above and below.     photos by Stan Deatherage

Actually, the attendance of the Turnage that night, in their seats, was less than a third. How much, I hesitate to guess.

The Good Lovelies did a great job to the extent that they sound just as good from the stage as they do on their CDs.

The Turnage folks have got to learn how to promote their shows on the internet, if they ever want to fill up the theater.

Sadly, I doubt the "lovely" ladies will be coming back.

I can't believe that this talented trio came to Washington, NC, to the historic Turnage Theater, and the theater was half empty. These girls were AMAZING. Some of the most beautiful harmonies you'll ever hope to hear. Beautiful songs, both upbeat and slow, with uplifting lyrics and great stories. I've been to well over 100 live concerts in my lifetime and I'm not sure that I've ever heard a more beautiful performance of a song than when The Good Lovelies sang "Best I Know". I got goosebumps several times during the concert. That's how good these girls were. If we're ever fortunate enough to have them back in the area, you do NOT want to miss them. They are a truly special talent. And, in case you don't yet know it, The Turnage Theater is an equally special venue.
