I am in Blowing Rock and about to hit the Blue Ridge parkway myself, and away from BCN.
Good Luck to the Panthers today, for I will have better things to do than watch them. |
Interestingly, a talk radio's publicist just contacted me and asked if I would publish his opinion pieces, so BCN might just have that discerning audiance.
Our Democratic elected government, until our populace can become much smarter, should probably not occupy any more countries. What the Democrats did to the Vietnamese is completely analogous to what the Democrats did to the Iraqis with the Obama surrender of Iraq. Johnson mismanaged Vietnam completely, and a Democrat congress finished it off. Obama one upped Johnson by surrendering a whole territory from a war fully won to some of the most evil humans ever to draw breath. Hopefully, BCN will help to educate so we can have a smarter electorate. Bobby Tony, your commentary and your stamps are most helpful here. |
Stan,
I was imprecise in my comment, I guess. Opposed is probably not the correct word, my own angst was for those who would be sent there and the suffering that I suspected they would endure and not an evaluation of the facts or political motives fostered it. I have been working on my "Grandpa Diaries" about my RVN experience and was probably overly provoked by one of the asinine comments. Interestingly enough, I think Vietnam was a noble war for noble reasons, which was poorly executed by micro management of politicians. The massacre of those left behind is proof enough for me in addition to the many Vietnamese I have met here who have thanked me when they found out I was there. It was not my war but America's war, which I was privileged to participate in. One of the few things that angers me now is the revisionist theories about our greed and plunder of the country for financial gain. I have broken my own advice about commenting on post, so I will leave it as it is. I trust that the readers of BCN are astute enough to separate fact from fiction even if some of us posters and commenters can't. |
Where is the stamp that says: CONSERVATIVES ARE STUPID AND WILL NEVER ADMIT IT
The WMD stuff was off questionable intel and we had satellites flying over Iraq which can detect tire marks on the ground = they had some Serine gas invented by Germans to exterminate Jews they DID NOT have rockets big enough to do more than they did to their own populace. Saddam's sons also had a chipping machine they towed behind their personal truck. All the current and past fear-mongering is nothing but Conservatism fear gone wild. The Stand Down which countermanded the Standing Order had to be given by Bush or Cheney. National Security will keep it hidden for the same years as the Kennedy Assassination. Truth has a way of bubbling up and out despite the attempted cover. Why don't we all deal with basic issues of why Ben Laden was the known criminal and Georgie Bush made it Saddam Hussein. Meanwhile Dick Cheney and his companies got rich as other US despots of corporatism over private contracting in the Middle East. If your simple minds can dare to admit it --- war is hell / war makes people rich / war is the basic drag down to deficite budgets since 9/11. Here are the facts on WAR: watson.brown.edu |
Bobby Tony,
Some wars have to be fought. You got caught up in one that did not need to be, although in a larger sense the Vietnam War did help with winning the Cold War. On the other hand, Obama surrendering Iraq will go down as the greatest military blunder in America's history. Look at the Middle East. It is far past the flash point there, and soon that war will be exported here to a weak and unsuspecting American populace. |
Stan,
I agree there were WMD at one time and possible transported to Syria. I suspect many are still in Iraq but have seen no proof (I admit, I have not actively researched the subject recently). My opposition to the war was more personal as a former combat veteran and not a political analysis, but I had no better alternative and was willing to trust the judgement of most of the free world intelligence agencies. One of the things that got Patton in trouble was his use of former NAZI to manage the infrastructure and he was relieved of command. We left a vacuum in Iraq and subsequently in the whole region which allowed the festering of the current terrorists. Regarding the lie of "NO WMD", there has been enough misinformation that some low information "Internet trolls" will continue to repeat the phrase ad nauseam. www.nytimes.com |
Bobby Tony,
My 'arm-chair quarterback' opinion: The WMD's (which were there and probably wound up in Syria before the invasion) were an excuse to take Iraq and use it as an embarkation platform to strike anywhere in the Middle East fast. In any military strategy, a proper base of operation is a fundamental need. I believe the original intent was to never leave Iraq until the World Wide War on Terror was over many decades from now, but Bush made two huge mistakes: 1) He allowed Colin Powell to protect the peace, which he royally screwed up with de-Baathification; 2) He allowed the Liberals to project the Bush Lied lie, by not strenuously refuting the Liberal idiots' wanton hypocrisy. You could argue that you should never wrestle a pig in slop, but you can't let the pig own the slop. Not with the American public's short attention span, and their growing lack of real knowledge. Liberals lie; it is what they now do; part of their Alinsky-the-end justifies-the means group thought training. One needs only to look toward Hussein Obama and Hillary B. to know this truth. I don't think there will ever be a Republican president who will ever tread so lightly ever again, when it comes to allowing Liberal lies to stand. The way to saving our nation is not through the better politician, it is through the smarter, more truthful electorate. |
Strike three, back to the dugout, you're out.
Osama bin Laden en.wikipedia.org "There is no universally accepted standard for transliterating Arabic words and Arabic names into English;[17] however, bin Laden's name is most frequently rendered "Osama bin Laden". The FBI and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), as well as other U.S. governmental agencies, have used either "Usama bin Laden" or "Usama bin Ladin". Less common renderings include "Ussamah bin Ladin" and, in the French-language media, "Oussama ben Laden". Other spellings include "Binladen" or, as used by his family in the West, "Binladin". The decapitalization of bin is based on the convention of leaving short prepositions, articles, and patronymics uncapitalized in surnames; the nasab bin means "son of". The spellings with o and e come from a Persian-influenced pronunciation also used in Afghanistan, where bin Laden spent many years. Osama bin Laden's full name, Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden, means "Osama, son of Mohammed, son of Awad, son of Laden". "Mohammed" refers to bin Laden's father Mohammed bin Laden; "Awad" refers to his grandfather, Awad bin Aboud bin Laden, a Kindite Hadhrami tribesman; "Laden" refers not to bin Laden's great-grandfather, who was named Aboud, but to a more distant ancestor. The Arabic linguistic convention would be to refer to him as "Osama" or "Osama bin Laden", not "bin Laden" alone, as "bin Laden" is a patronymic, not a surname in the Western manner. According to bin Laden's son Omar bin Laden, the family's hereditary surname is "al-Qahtani" (Arabic: القحطاني, āl-Qaḥṭānī, but bin Laden's father Mohammed bin Laden never officially registered the name.[18] Osama bin Laden had also assumed the kunyah "Abū 'Abdāllāh" ("father of Abdallah"). His admirers have referred to him by several nicknames, including the "Prince" or "Emir" (الأمير, al-Amīr), the "Sheik" (الشيخ, aš-Šaykh), the "Jihadist Sheik" or "Sheik al-Mujahid" (شيخ المجاهد, Šaykh al-Mujāhid), "Hajj" (حج, Ḥajj), and the "Director".[19] The word usāmah (أسامة means "lion",[20] earning him the nicknames "Lion" and "Lion Sheik".[21]" |
