Sarah McLachlan - I will remember you
I remember the old family friend who taught me to drive his old truck. And, the old policeman in our little town who "arrested" us and sentenced neighborhood cleanup projects.
Folks who never did anything for me or to me are long forgotten regardless of kinship. I see their names in the family history books and findagrave.com.
Teachers who curved grades to made sure everybody passed are a beloved memory. (There was no Common Core in the 60s). I remember the shop teacher who provided tool training useful to destroy equipment at home.
I taught my granddaughter to drive; she recently passed her license test and told me I promised her my old Honda three years ago. I vaguely remember saying something like that. Anyway, she now has a car. She will remember me.
