A Christmas Story: The Perfect Picture of a Simpler, Yet Complicated Time | Eastern North Carolina Now

The movie "A Christmas Story," by humorist Jean Shepherd, is the most exposed story in a decade. With this gem, who needs to own the DVD? It drones on and on each Christmas Season, and we are left with multiple vignettes of somebody's memories.

If you remember anything resembling any of this, you are a pretty old guy. I guess I'm getting there too.

Here below are is an assemblage of some of my favorites.

What boy did not want a BB gun for Christmas? It'll shoot your eye out!

What does one do when a pack of wild dogs storm through your kitchen and devour your Christmas turkey, and the neighborhood Chinese eatery is the only meal to be had? Well, you don't order take out.

Me too B.T.

He really captured the 1950's baby boomers generation. Darren McGavin was such a perfect pick as the father.

What is interesting about the Christmas story is in 1983 I was 38 years old and the movie was Nostalgic for me then. Now I'm 71 and it's double nostalgic. Peter Billingsley by the way is 45 years old now and probably looks back on that movie as nostalgic? I no like longer want a Red Ryder BB Gun, but Little Beaver (aka Tony Baretta) sounds interesting. Look it up its not an off-color reference.

As most of my post prove, living in the nostalgic past is fun, with the possible exception of these last eight years.
