As soon as first-term Labor Commissioner Josh Dobson made the surprise announcement that he would not run again, Guilford County state Rep. Jon Hardister, a Republican, began hearing from supporters that he should consider the role.

Dobson will have served 14 consecutive years in three different offices when his term ends in 2024, first as a McDowell County commissioner, then as a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, and as the Commissioner of Labor.

The State Board of Elections on Monday ordered a new election for the Town of Dobson Board of Commissioners in Surry County, and determined that hearings should be held for the possible removal of two Surry County Board of Elections members.
