One of the benefits of eastern North Carolina living includes the proximity to beaches, water ways and a multitude of outdoor recreation activities, perfect for the summertime. However, sun exposure is the greatest risk factor associated with skin cancer.

Governor Pat McCrory signed into law HB 158, the Jim Fulghum Teen Skin Cancer Prevention Act today. The governor signed the legislation at a ceremony attended by the late state representative's family, legislators and leaders from North Carolina's medical community.

Known as the Youth Skin Cancer Prevention Act, HB 18 would require all North Carolinians under 18 years of age to have a written prescription from a doctor in order to use a tanning bed, essentially banning all minors from indoor tanning.
