Commented On What is fiscal responsibility and transparency?
John, FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT. I have seen so many talk about the rate decrease and blame the county for their tax increase. The average taxpayer does not understand what you just put in plain English. Well done sir. Now get on Facebook and shut down the misinformation coming from all directions on how this works, lol. The City increased taxes without providing more services. It is about like when they increased the rate .02 to save for the police station. They were supposed to give it back once it was built. Did they do that? NO! So that's an extra .02 that was diverted to fund their other pet projects and misuse of tax dollars.

Will, the inmates are not convicted criminals. They are innocent until proven guilty. By law, they have to receive 2 hot meals a day. So, no, all they need is not a peanut butter sandwich.

Commented On Let's Get It Right!
John, the reason private schools and/or charter schools can provide an education at a lower cost per student is because they do not have the same regulations. They do not have to provide free lunch like Beaufort County Public schools do. Their teachers also do not need to be certified, which is scary. I know many students who came out of PCA to go into college having to take college prep courses because they were not prepared by the private school to enter into college. Is that all, no. But I know many. Also, I would argue that private schools are at a higher cost per student. They pay 10,000+ in tuition, have to pay for books, pay for lunch, pay for transportation, and then the school has fundraisers that you have to raise a certain amount or pay out of pocket more. Also, you have to commit to volunteer your time to work for them for events or pay your way out of volunteering. It is all a money racket.

Commented On Civics 101: Beware of Bureaucracy
John, their sales and services (pay as you use) accounts for 1.8 million. property taxes account for 7.5 million. Think about how much more taxes would have to be raised to increase the ad valorem tax revenue by 1.8 million. That's not minor. I agree with everyone up here that the taxes are outrageous, the admin charge from enterprise funds is insane, and storm water fees, trash pickup fees, and other charges can be a way to "tax" the property owner more. But not all governmental revenues are taxes.

Neutral and the City is above the County tax rate. The county stayed flat in a reval year while the city imposed an 11.5 cent increase while stating in articles they decreased the rate.

Commented On Karine Jean-Pierre Insists It’s Not Her Job To Answer Questions Like Some Sort Of Press Secretary
When does she think she'll grow out this schoolgirl puppet stage? She shouldn't have taken the job if she couldn't answer questions from the press. She said it herself, "It's all staged". Fake presidency!

Commented On Slann strikes again
Mr. Richardson - your attacks on Slann are satisfying. You should be bothered by Dawn Slann. She is a threat to the business you've made out of being a lifelong politician and the right answer for Beaufort County. Keep crying.

Commented On Washington, N.C., Deserves Better Than This
www.witn.com
"Michael Whatley meets with local officials in Beaufort County. Washington City Councilman Max Perreault said Whatley’s campaign reached out to him to host the meet and greet. A campaign spokesperson for Roy Cooper, Whatley’s Democratic opponent, said in response to the visit: “Roy Cooper is running to deliver lower costs for working families in Beaufort County and across North Carolina.” Perreault and the Beaufort County sheriff also spoke at the breakfast meet and greet event." ========= OH REALLY? Its more likely that Whatley reached out to the Local GOP, who then reached out to their inside man Perreault. Who they may be cultivating as part of their secret committee, useful idiot, and shadow Govt. (There are pictures of participants at the link.) |

Commented On Washington, N.C., Deserves Better Than This
Three ENC sites fail this week’s Swim Guide tests
May 29, 2026 By WITN Web Team Those sites were the Washington waterfront and Havens Gardens in Washington on the Tar-Pamlico River and Slocum Creek in Havelock on the Neuse River. Isnt it time for Washington Govt to dazel us with all their expertise?? Surely we pay them enough. Why would anyone want to live here? They tax us to death, while they watch the city slowly rot away. There are not the needed doctors, or even the laborers willing to live here and take jobs keeping our homes up. There is a shortage of everything, except for members of the bureaucratic machine. We thought we were getting a new City Council, but instead got one which was quickly indoctrinated by that bureaucratic machine. Every lawyer in town is part of that machine. A.I wont do anything to humans that these bureaucrats havent already done. "Manage the humans"...ignore them until they become nothing more than bank accounts for the City Machine. |
