August, 2010 Events | Eastern North Carolina Now

We are now loading the events for August. Stay tuned by checking back in the Events Calendar to discover all the activities, many events are free to the public, that make Beaufort County the place to be; at that very moment. A unique offering in Beaufort County is the Pickin' on the Pamlico event, held Saturday, August 14th 2010 at 5:30pm until 10:00 pm on Washington's Waterfront next to the North Carolina Estuarium.

A band is scheduled (TBA) for the event. Last year the band, 360 Degrees, was scheduled to perform. It had rained a bit at the onset of the event, so the band did not play. What became a very curious event is when the band, 360 Degrees, started packing up the equipment to leave before it was time for them to play, even the rain was lifting in this transient summer storm. Incredibly, with the skies clearing, the band packed up and left with their check for their underformed performance, and for the last two hours of the event, there was no band.

360 Degrees will always be known in these parts as "the band that would not stay, the band who would not play." I just hope: That the next band that comes this year will not be paid in advance like 360 Degrees, and that 360 Degrees will no longer be asked to perform in this area. Of course, in the words of P.T. Barnum, "there's a sucker born every minute." I'm sure we have our generous portion here Down East.

Incidentally, there are many very capable local groups of musicains that would love to play the Pickin' on the Pamlico event, who would actually play the music for the pay they would recieve. Novel concept, eh?

    Just a reminder.
