By a vote of 5 to 2, the Beaufort County Commissioners passed a resolution to request that the North Carolina General Assembly decline any requests from the State Board of elections to change the process of Absentee Voting.
The handling of the so called Corona Virus Pandemic to date is an example of extreme bad judgment in generating estimates of future contagious conditions, the severity of the virus and has trashed the Constitution of the United States.
During last nights budget workshop the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners elected to reinstate the Tuesday, May 26, 2020 workshop that had previously been cancelled.

State and Federal

In tribute to the sacrifices of our armed services personnel, Governor Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities be flown at half-staff on Monday, May 25 until 12 noon in honor of Memorial Day.
As we continue to honor the life of NC Civil Rights Activist, Andrea Harris, Governor Roy Cooper is extending the half-staff notice.

City Governments

This Earth Day, the City of Washington and Beaufort County Schools are continuing their efforts to create and maintain a safe and clean environment for the community.
On April 13, 2020, the City of Washington’s Council voted to approve a one-time thirty percent (30%) reduction in the electric utility rate for all customers in the current (April) billing cycle.
The Beaufort County Finance Committee meeting that was scheduled for tomorrow, March 17, 2020 has been cancelled.
There will be a special meeting of the Washington City Council on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 3:00pm
