Washingtonian: Rather than "trust a lawyer," it is incumbent upon smart, wise elected leaders to use the recorded counsel of the hired lawyer, and if that counsel is subpar, like the last lawyer that the Center-Left Coalition employed, you deal with it; however ...
You have to win elections and bust up the incompetence of the long running majority, known as the Center-Left Coalition, a group of bipartisan fools, who swap votes to share power here in Beaufort County. You know, at a very real point, it is also, and ultimately, the responsibility of Beaufort County's voters to do a far better job in electing smarter, far more competent Beaufort County Commissioners.

You are naive and due to be hurt if you trust any lawyer even your own.
Its the same as trusting a politician. By the way, many politicians were lawyers... especially among the Dems.

"What we have here is... a failure to communicate." (Cool Hand Luke warden)
Stan makes a motion to have said title search prevented to the commission... to satisfy the curiosity of the citizens about the $500,000 boondoggle, but 2 dems and their 2 Republican rubberstampers vote nay. What we have here is HDS & SDS. Whatever Hood and Stan is for...they are against. Its just like TDS nationwide. Those Dems think their job is to resist Trump REGARDLESS of the people's vote to support him. They have forgotten, or perhaps never believed that their job is to serve the public's well-being. Keeping us in the dark is NOT serving our well-being. These Commissioners who seem to be suffering from an unreasonable emotional bias, need to be voted out as soon as possible. The ROT is everywhere locally. We hear that the Beaufort County/Washington Voters get what they deserve...? Pray for us.

Momma Mia: I will request the long awaited, and far-TOO-LATE-of-a-title-search on behalf of Beaufort County's taxpayers as I represent them, their best interests, irrespective of being in the minority of those commissioners who firmly believe in wiser, limited, and far less corrupt government here in their county of Beaufort.
Our taxpayer's paid for that title search; they paid for that monstrosity of a building to be built on the lowest point of that piece of ground, with the its defective title, an they absolutely deserve to see it "warts and all."

Big Bob: You speak of "Remember, on Social Media, a lot of people make stuff up."
I agree, but Steve Rader is not one of him. Steve Rader absolutely receives the Stan Deatherage Seal of Approval for Abject Honesty. You should be so lucky to be approved for such a lofty award.

It would appear that Bozo Bob's comment below is in relation to Steve Rader, a fairly well known semi-retired local attorney. I think Bob will find that he does have the background he describes. Stan knows him, so Bob might ask Stan.
That allegation also probably shows Bobbie is not from around here. Is he a troll sitting in Beijing? He certainly likes to defend China's favorite former president.

Please produce the title search Mr. Walker has mentioned. This is a perfect example of conflict between spouses on boards. There have obviously been several conversations that are unethical. This is scary! Ask for an updated Membership Forecast that should be done annually and submitted with the grant.

SPR: That's what really perplexes me about the school superintendent: Frugal to a fault on some things and extravagant to a fault on others. Either way turns out to be expensive to the general public.

What is appalling is that the school superintendant never seemed to have brought the school board's attorney into the process. Maybe that is because he is way off in Durham and travel would have eaten them up financially. One of the first things an attorney would have done is determine title. To use an old British expression, the school superintendant was penny wise and pound foolish for not bringing in legal advice into the process at the beginning.
When I served in the Martin administration as General Counsel of the Department of Health and Human Services, on a project this size our Office of Legal Affairs would have been thoroughly engaged. That is so even though a $50 million project was less than 2% of our annual budget as compared to about 2/3rds of the school system's annual budget. Our taxpayers are out half a million dollars as a result, and that is not acceptable.

All of this started because a building project was begun on land the school system assumed they owned. Now the argument is we can't stop no matter the cost, because we have started. It seems only one of the nine School Board members voted to slow down this process, and now only three of the seven County Commissioners are willing to take a look at this. No matter. It's only hard-earned tax money.

As a point of clarification, when the Center-Left Coalition Party, who swap votes to share power here in Beaufort County, who voted to retain and keep their abject sophistry born from the convenience of Group-Think, I stated in in my observance of their utter inaction (and not wanting to let this last comment go unaccounted for): "Don't want to know; don't care; don't want to know, don't what to know; keeping their heads in the sand!"

In all my many years, I have never served with such an incurious bunch of unified county commissioners as is this Center-Left Coalition.
Observing these piecemeal politicians conflate issues of partial importance to steer nebulous points toward the threshold of utter confusion and pathological ambiguity is no way to treat one's constituency in this self-governed Republic.
