Winning in 2014 | Eastern North Carolina Now

Publisher's Note: Jim Bispo's column appears in the Beaufort Observer.

It was about 2 years ago when we were hearing what a good chance Mitt Romney had of being our next President. We were told how the polls that had the other guy ahead were based on biased samples and so on. It wasn't until election day that we discovered that the polls were not only correct but perhaps they actually understated the gap between the two candidates.

Even later we discovered that the "Chicago Brain Trust" had really done a fantastic job of focusing on specific voters in specific precincts and getting them out to cast their ballots. The behavioral folks and the systems analysts collected a ton of personal data, and did some ground breaking analyses, which resulted in turning a lot of otherwise non - voters into voters and resulted in getting the Anointed One reelected.

Here we are two years later hearing the same rosy projections about the likelihood that the Reps can (and likely will) retain their majority in the House and take over the Senate this November. The result of the recent Florida special election is "proof" of the validity of the projection. Conventional wisdom seems to be that all the Reps have to do is keep hammering the Dems over Obama Care.

Given that conventional wisdom, there are two things that are particularly troublesome. The first is the seeming inability (unwillingness) of the Social Conservative Republicans, the Tea Party Republicans and the Libertarian Republicans to find a common ground... The second is that no one seems to be paying any attention to what is going on with the Chicago Brain Trust.

The Chicago Brain Trust is the group that reportedly swung the election last time. It would therefore seem to be prudent to be paying some attention to what they are doing. Yes, the Anointed One is not running this time. Well, not exactly anyway. However, it seems clear that if he loses the Senate, he will surely have a lot of time to concentrate on his Library. If he isn't smart enough to realize that, his chief spear carrier, David Axelrod, surely is. He knows that the Obama surrogates have to win or the Administration's "glory days" will be over. So, in a way, the Anointed One is running - and he must win - again.

As an aside, it seems strange that the Anointed One's crew doesn't seem to be able to field an "Obama Care" web site where folks can sign up for his so called "signature" legislation, but they are able to ferret out large numbers of seemingly disinterested voters and get them to vote for the Anointed One despite a first term pretty much devoid of substantive accomplishments. Hmmm...

And by the way, talking about the Obama Library, we read in the papers that a Barack H. Obama Foundation has been established for the express purpose of planning "The Library". What we have not heard much about is that there is already a Barack H. Obama foundation in existence. It has been in existence for several years, and it is a 510(c)(3) - tax exempt, non-profit organization. The "original" foundation was established and is "managed" by Abon'go Malik Obama, the Anointed One's half brother.

To read more about the Abon'go created foundation, click here.

Granting each of two separate Foundations with the same name tax exempt status would seem to be an oversight that could well have "slipped through" the cracks while Ms. Lois Lerner (formerly of IRS and currently of Fifth Amendment fame) was focused on reining in Tea Party groups. In any case it will be interesting to see what happens to Abon'go and his foundation over time. I could not find any record of the "original" foundation having their 501(C)(3) status revoked, so it would seem to be still in existence. Do you suppose a Government Grant (to the "original" Foundation) would go very far in resolving what would seem to be the inconvenience of having two 501(c)(3) organizations with the same name?? Hmmm...

    But I digress...

Each of the three groups into which the Reps seem to have divided are demanding that everyone else must adopt their position. It seems that everyone must agree on everything or the deal is off. In taking that kind of a position, they are running the very real risk of handing the election to the Dems. The Reps do seem to be increasingly adept at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory - and that is certainly one way to do it.

Does anyone truly believe that the country would be better off with Harry Reid still in charge of the Senate for the rest of the Anointed One's reign?? That is what is likely to happen unless we quit trying to get everyone in the tent to completely agree about every issue. I am not suggesting or advocating that any of the three groups give up their principles. What I am suggesting is that instead of trying to get the everyone to accept those things about which they disagree, they would be better served by focusing on those things about which they agree and campaigning in favor of those things against the Dems instead of each other. Remember. Job 1 is getting elected!!...
