Jones Announces Action Toward Vertical Lift Fan Facility at FRC East

WASHINGTON, D.C.     Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) is pleased to announce that the Department of Defense has taken steps toward establishing a vertical lift fan repair facility at Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) East to service the F-35B. In a meeting with Congressman Jones yesterday, Fleet Readiness Centers Commander Rear Admiral Paul Sohl confirmed that he penned a letter of endorsement for the facility to the head of the Joint Program Office for the F-35 program, Lieutenant General Christopher Bogdan.

"Considering that the vertical lift fan is an essential, high-stress component of the F-35, I believe it is critically important that facilities in addition to the original equipment manufacturer be available for depot-level maintenance and testing," said Congressman Jones. "Allowing this work to be done by the capable employees of FRC East would be the right decision for Eastern North Carolina, the service members who will depend on the F-35's readiness, and the taxpayers who are funding the aircraft's acquisition and maintenance."

Jones Supports Legislation that Would Save Taxpayers Billlions

WASHINGTON, D.C.     Legislation supported by Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) during 2013 would decrease federal spending by a total of $141.6 billion, according to a new report from the National Taxpayers Union Foundation. The report considered each member's sponsorship and cosponsorship of bills for which the Congressional Budget Office estimated a cost and used that information to calculate the change in federal spending that would occur should the bills supported by a specific member become law.

"Out of control spending is the most pressing issue facing our country today," said Congressman Jones. "Our national debt has reached an astonishing $17 trillion, yet we continue to spend money that we do not have. We in Congress have a responsibility to wisely use the taxpayers' money, and I will continue to support legislation that puts an end to the government's reckless spending habit."
