Bear Tours | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Overview:

    There are three types of tours to choose from. The first two are on Federal land, (Pungo Unit of Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge) and State land, (Tidewater Research Station).

    These tours cost $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. The third tour is on one of the premier private properties in the world for bear viewing. Participants can expect to see 20 - 50 or more bears on this tour! It is being handled directly with this fulltime tour company, Dare to Hyde Outdoor Adventures. Their basic tour is $75 per person for adults and children 12 and under half price ($37.50). Their special Swamp Buggy Tour is $175 per person

    Bear Tour # 1

    Pungo Unit of Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge
    Tours: Friday Evening - June 5th - Sunday Morning - June 7th



    Thank you for your interest in the Washington County Black Bear refuge tours. This tour will take you on a journey of the refuge with the greatest potential for seeing the black bears that call Pocosin Lakes their home, with unique opportunities to see an array of wildlife and the beauty of nature, at various locations.

    The Tour bus will pick you up at the Port O'Plymouth Museum located at 302 E Water St, Plymouth. For interactive map, go to: http://ncbearfest.com/locator-map

    Please allow approximately 3 - 3 1/2 hours for travel and tour time, with the tour being approximately 2 - 21/2 hours, approximately 30 minute travel time for each direction.     You are welcome to bring your camera, binoculars, and remember to dress for the weather, with comfortable shoes for short walks; or if walking will be difficult, you are welcome to stay on the tour bus and sit back and enjoy the view.

    Tour # 2 - Bears & Bald Eagle Tour

    Tidewater Research Station
    Tours: Friday Evening - June 5th - Sunday Morning - June 7th Friday - June 5th

    This is a shorter tour and is only 15 minutes from the Bear Festival. Please allow approximately 2- 2 1/2 hours for travel and tour time, with the tour being approximately 1-1/2 - 2 hours. Tour will be on first come, first serve basic or for reservation please contact: Doris Morris @ doris.friendsrefuge@gmail.com

    You are welcome to bring your camera, binoculars, and remember to dress for the weather, with comfortable shoes for short walks; or if walking will be difficult, you are welcome to stay on the tour bus and sit back and enjoy the view. You may also bring a small cooler with non-alcohol beverage(s), snack(s) or sandwiches, to be placed under your seat or in your lap.

    Tour # 3

    Premier Private Land Bear Tour with Dare to Hyde Outdoor Adventures

    Dare To Hyde Adventures currently manages over 30,000 acres of privately owned bear habitat throughout Eastern North Carolina. We are proud to offer some of the finest and most successful bear viewing tours on the planet. Whether an experienced outdoorsman and photographer, or an amateur seeking your first black bear encounter, these tours are bound to impress. We will be offering two tour options during the NC Black Bear Festival. In addition to bears, ample opportunities for many other wildlife species encounters will be present during your tour. Additional information is as follows:

    These limited time only tour rates will be offered Thursday-Sunday of the NC Bear Festival Weekend.

    Standard Tour: $75.00 per person (half price for youth 12 and under) - This is our standard group tour. They will include at least 2 hours on one of our privately managed farms. Non-alcoholic beverages and light refreshments will be provided, but guests are encouraged to bring their own. If you would like to book a private tour that only includes the people in your group, please let us know at the time of booking; rates may vary. Departure times:

    Morning tours: Depart Plymouth 5:30 am, return by approximately 9:30 am.

    Evening tours: Depart Plymouth by 5:00 pm, return by approximately 9:00 pm.

    Safari Style Off-Road Tour: $175.00 per person (half price for youth 12 and under) - This tour is conducted safari style on one of our off-road tour vehicles; includes at least 2 hours on one of our private farms. Safari style tours provide a higher vantage point, increased customization, and more intimate encounters. Non-alcoholic beverages and light refreshments will be provided, but guests are encouraged to bring their own. Departure times:

    Morning tours: Depart Fairfield 6:00 am, and return by 9:00 am.

    Evening tours: Depart Fairfield 5:30 pm, and return by 8:30 pm.
