    Wilmington, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory helped kick off construction of the new State Employees' Credit Union Memorial Walkway today at the USS North Carolina Battleship.


    "Two years ago I was here to thank the SECU for their incredible pledge to help make this memorial walkway a reality," said Governor McCrory. "To be here to help break ground for this project is a testament to the commitment of the SECU and the people of our state to honoring those that have served our country."

    Also on hand for the ceremony were Secretary of Natural and Cultural Resources Susan Kluttz, Secretary of Military and Veterans Affairs General Cornell Wilson, SECU Board of Directors, elected officials and Friends of the Battleship.


    Governor McCrory underscored that the state has remained committed to supporting the Battleship North Carolina through funding hull repairs and other projects as a way to preserve this memorial for all fallen and missing soldiers, veterans, active duty military members and their families.
