Press Release:

Maiden, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory celebrated the grand opening of Carolina Nonwovens in Maiden today. In June 2015, the governor announced that Carolina Nonwovens was doubling its workforce and creating 35 new jobs. When Governor McCrory entered office, Catawba County had an 11.6 percent unemployment rate. Since that time, Catawba County's unemployment rate has fallen to 4.5 percent.

"Today's grand opening shows that our economy is on a comeback, and North Carolina has the workforce businesses need and the infrastructure and climate to compete," Governor McCrory said.

Governor McCrory made a major anouncmement yesterday that CSX is building an intermodal terminal hub that will lead to more than 1,500 new jobs in North Carolina. The Carolina Connector hub will facilitate efficient and cost-effective movement of cargo between trains and trucks.

The hub will process more than 260,000 containers a year, making it a crucial economic asset for our entire state's business community, including Carolina Nonwovens, which imports the materials needed at this site from Asia, Europe and Central America. The hub will not only make it easier and more cost-effective for Carolina Nonwoven to get the raw materials they need, but also to export their finished product to more markets around the world.

Since Governor McCrory took office in January 2013, North Carolina's economy has generated nearly 280,000 net new private-sector jobs.
