BCCC Foundation Awards Scholarships | Eastern North Carolina Now

    The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following recipients of scholarships through the BCCC Foundation for the spring 2017 semester.

    Pamela Bowen of Ayden has received the LaBarbera Scholarship. Bowen, 45, attended Ayden-Grifton High School and is working toward an Associate Degree in Nursing. Daughter of Thomas and Margaret Bowen of Ayden, she plans to continue working at Golden Living Center, where she is currently employed. Bowen already holds a Nurse Aide I and II certification from Lenoir Community College, a Medical Technician certification from Pitt Community College and a Licensed Practical Nurse and Associate in General Education from BCCC.

    Miguel Hernandez of Pinetown has received the Frances Morgan Roberson Culinary Arts Scholarship. Hernandez, 29, is working on his high school equivalency at BCCC. Husband of Aracelis Rosado and father of five, he plans to look for opportunities after finishing his HSE. He currently works as a prep cook at Marabella's.

    Chelsea Huggins of Washington has received the James Franklin & Hannah Roberson Bagwell Endowment Scholarship. Huggins, 18, attended New Bern High School and is working on an Associate Degree in Nursing. Daughter of David and Janie Martin of New Bern, she plans to continue in the RN to BSN program and then get her doctorate as a nurse practitioner. Huggins works as a childcare teacher at Unity Christian Academy.

    Carter O'Neal of Washington has received the BCCC Foundation Scholarship. O'Neal, 19, attended Washington High School and is working toward an Associate in Science. He is the son of Jennie and Johnny O'Neal and plans to transfer to East Carolina University. He is currently employed at Phillips-Wright Furniture Company.

    Brandon Rogers of Washington has received the BCCC Foundation Scholarship. Rogers, 22, attended First Flight High School and is working toward an Associate in Welding. Son of Kenneth Guns, Sr. of Kill Devil Hills, he plans to work locally as a welder. Rogers currently works at the Kitty Hawk Garden Center.

    Kristen Shackelford of Washington has received the BCCC Foundation Scholarship. Shackelford, 22, is an information technology student. She attended Washington High School and is a mother of one. Shackelford plans to earn a bachelor's degree.

    Teresa Silverthorne of Washington has received the Frances Morgan Roberson Culinary Arts Scholarship. Silverthorne, 48, attended Aurora High School. Daughter of Melinda and Alexandru Stoica of Greenville, she plans to become a medical coder.

    Dylan Singleton of Washington has received the Community Endowment Scholarship. Singleton, 19, is working toward an Associate of Arts and Science. Son of Jim and Jennie Singleton of Washington, he plans to transfer to UNC Charlotte to obtain a biomedical engineering degree.
