    Mr. John Darrel Naberhaus, age 76, a resident of 684 Singleton Rd., Washington, NC died Friday May 12, 2017 at his home.

    A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday May 16, 2017 at First Free Will Baptist Church on Bonner Street in Washington. The service will be officiated by Pastor Todd Parrish. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Hall, Kent Walker, B.L. Eborn, Glenn Alligood and Tony Turbeville.

    The family will receive friends 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at the church and other times at the home.

    Mr. Naberhaus was born in St. Joseph, MO on May 29, 1940 son of the late Charles Edward Naberhaus and the late Mary Ethel Leiffring Naberhaus. He was a 1958 graduate of Bartow High School in Bartow, FL where he was a competitive athlete playing football as well as being the Florida state high school golf champion while in the tenth grade. Mr. Naberhaus continued his education at SMU and the University of Florida where he received his Masters in Mechanical Engineering with a specialty in structures. He concentrated his professional work in the phosphate industry, which included PCS of Aurora, and he also spent time in aerospace engineering having worked on an Apollo mission, projects for Boeing and the military. His love for golf continued and he eventually started building custom golf clubs as well as competing for the companies that employed him. Other enjoyable activities included cycling and spending time outdoors. Mr. Naberhaus also loved teaching God's love and was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Washington.

    Mr. Naberhaus married the former Anita Fay Coker on June 3, 1961, who preceded him in death on March 18, 1999. On July 4, 1999, he married the former Betty Carolyn "Jill" Rowe Walker who survives.

    Surviving along with his wife Jill of the home are two daughters: Carol Naberhaus and her husband Tony Turbeville of Beaufort and Cheryle of North Fort Myers, FL; two granddaughters: Elizabeth Blanchard and Abbigail Ward and a step granddaughter: Jenna Walker. Mr. Naberhaus was predeceased along with his parents and first wife by: two sons: John Naberhaus, Jr. and James Naberhaus.
