Jones And Garamendi Call for Debate on War in Afghanistan | Eastern North Carolina Now

News Release:

WASHINGTON, DC     Yesterday, Congressmen Walter B. Jones (NC-3) and John Garamendi (CA-3), along with House cosponsors of H.R. 1666, hosted a press conference regarding their bill to prohibit funds for activities in Afghanistan, and the importance of debating the 16 year war in Afghanistan, the longest war in America's history.

"Afghanistan is not worth one penny or one drop of blood," exclaimed Congressman Walter Jones.

"It's our job in congress to come to grips with the reality of war," stated Congressman John Garamendi. "We need to debate this."

"By all metrics of measuring success, we have failed," explained Congressman Thomas Massie. "Why should our men and women still be dying in Afghanistan?"

"What are we doing and why are we there?" asked Congressman Don Young.

Congressman Emanuel Cleaver offered another perspective, "We are borrowing money from China for a war in Afghanistan,"

"The sooner we get out of Afghanistan, the better it will be for our country," concluded Congressman John Duncan.
