Devout Christian, NFL QB Philip Rivers Stuns Interviewer When Discussing Children | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers stunned sports talk host Dan Patrick when discussing his large family in an interview Monday.

    Rivers, who's been outspoken about his Christian faith as a practicing Catholic, has eight children with his high school sweetheart-turned-wife Tiffany, whom he married when he was just 19 and she was 18.

    To the amazement of Patrick, Rivers' eight children - six girls and two boys - are not enough; he wants more, and Tiffany is completely on board.

    "We were trying to bet on how many kids you have now," laughed Patrick. "I went with eight."

    The 7-time pro bowler responded cheerfully, "You're on it!"

    "You got eight?" answered Patrick, to which Rivers replied: "You nailed it. Six girls and two boys."

    When asked if the NFL star was done procreating, Rivers enthusiastically said, "Heck no! I hope not."

    Patrick, skeptical that Rivers' wife would sign on to such apparent insanity, joked, "I should talk to your wife. Does your wife know that you want to have more?"

    "Oh yeah, she's all in," said a confident Rivers.

    "Six girls?" the host asked.

    "Yeah, six girls," the Alabama native answered. "But I'll tell you what, the three oldest are girls. Now they're 16, 13, and 12, so we have a lotta little mamas in the house, helping out."

    "My God!" exclaimed Patrick.

    "It's awesome," Rivers assured him.

    Patrick then joked that Rivers' girls probably think he's "stupid," seemingly following the unflattering stereotype of the dopey dad in modern American sitcoms.

    "No," Rivers laughed. "Well, sometimes. Just in general, you know, like 'Dad!'"

    Rivers told the host that no boys have been over to the house yet looking to date his daughters, adding that they aren't following the same timeline as he did, married at 19 and popping out children right away.

    During an interview in the summer of 2017, Rivers expounded on his longstanding faith, which he made his "own" when he went away to college.

    "My faith has always been very important to me," asserted Rivers. "When I went to college is really when it became my own. I had to get up out of that dorm room and go to church, go to mass on Sunday. That's when I took ownership of my faith."

    "I think that the center of our marriage and the foundation of our relationship was on Jesus," he said. "That is why it's worked to this point."

    "I hope that God has used me to touch one of you in your faith journey with Jesus," added Rivers.
