Just a Few Thoughts Before we Turn Down that Road | Eastern North Carolina Now

Presently in the United States of America, it is a road that is inevitable, and incalculably the wrong way. I found the beginnings of that inevitable path when I represented Beaufort County at the NACo (National Association of Counties) Legislative Conference in Washington, DC. That portal to tomorrow’s America is one that steal’s one’s individuality and repays us in the unification of a different day.

Now, we must all agree that a different day will surely embrace us all, however the debate looms as to what shape our collective future will take. And in those terms of that collective tomorrow, the operative word is collective. I think often about my fellow Americans as a collective group: Individuals all, but intrinsically connected by our collective past and our potential the futures. For these brave new liberals, Socialists by my estimation, in Washington City, with their boot heels on the jugular of our freedoms, their idea of collective takes on a more ominous tone.

That tone harkens back to the glory days of “The Collective;” an imagined agrarian utopia, set up to manage the masses, that evolved into the twin nightmares that was Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin respective working visions of Mother Russia. “The Collective” took the existing serf class under the ruling tsars and made them the slaves of the Communist Committee: inefficient in endeavor and uninspired in the industry of raising the harvest, that must the surely come.

The Democrats / Socialists ruling us now from the District of Columbia have borrowed generously from that spiritually poor birth of Communism to foist their brand of Democrat Socialism upon us. As I sat with the other inspired representatives from counties across America, I imagined to what extent this rushing movement would take us. Engaged in discussions with some of America’s local leaders, talk of Barack Obama flowed, not so much, from his devotees, as the President, but as “The Man.” I suppose this was his summation of his inordinate people skills, and yet what most took me aback was the prevailing theme, engineered by the motives within their message, was that all initiatives by this Democrat / Socialist administration equated to our national defense.

While discussion of the imminent ObamaCare as a component of National Defense fell on my deaf ears, the call to energy independence did, however, resonate with me. I do buy that concept under the broad umbrella of: increased oil discovery and production, increased nuclear power, wind and solar, and most importantly, the integration of natural gas as a flexible fuel source - for heat, and the powering of motorized conveyances; public and private, we can gain energy independence. That was not the message amongst these minions of “The Man.”

Their “collective” message is that energy independence will flourish by the lone efforts of “green power” initiatives: which mostly involves “carbon captured” and the sell of those “carbon credits” on the open market, as if there is a great market for our forced bondage to yet another market that buys and sells our hypothesized carbon foot print. At what point will carbon default swaps created to gamble on which corporate job builder fails to impress “The Man’s” new Energy Czar, or worse, which individual family falls short of their new civic duty? Will there be local initiatives to punish those factories or individuals, who do not measure up to “The Collective’s” purpose? Pitchforks and screaming mobs notwithstanding, there was a challenge, within the seminar I attended on this infamous subject, to entice local governing entities (mostly counties) to organize carbon capture regulatory authorities to harass the local citizenry to become better citizens and provide a better grasp of the management of these locales’ individual citizens and the corporate enterprises’ carbon footprints. Carbon Capture Regulatory Authority was explained to us a new and inventive “green” revenue source for cash strapped county governments.

It sounds as if the new “collective” is intent on collecting more than our carbon emanations, they want to collect our freedoms as well. How about the freedom to exist as a life-form, without the fear of repression by a local organized regulatory authority.

As a steward of the planet, I personally: compost, recycle, manage travel to be more efficient, I plant tees and manage my forest and I stay close to nature by gardening and hiking. I embrace the health of our planet firsthand, and I favor the idea that through prudent and truthful education, we can raise a new crop of “life-forms” to also choose to be stewards, however, the indoctrination methods of the “save the planet” crazies will prove counter productive, and steer those who could be their natural allies, in this worthy endeavor, far from its intended purpose. My advice to the Al Gore inspired environmental fascists: Put down the pitchforks and start loving your fellow man, if you truly care about our planet.

There are too many of us who love freedom, and will stand firm against the loss of any more of those freedoms to the hypocrisy of those who would selfishly remake the world, and its peoples, in the image of their terribly damaged egos. Eventually the madness of Lenin and Stalin was defeated, but inestimable physical and spiritual damage was done to Russia, and the World, at large, who stood against the oppressive goals of their hegemony. I’m telling you that, while you get those “warm fuzzy feelings” in your likeminded “collective” of those who are also well indoctrinated, you will, like Lenin and Stalin, eventually fail.
