Palombo Calls Netanyahu Israel's Ronald Reagan | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

Today Third District Congressional candidate Frank Palombo praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanhayu, calling him Israel's Ronald Reagan.

"Prime Minister Netanhayu's speech this week to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) was inspiring and deliberate," Palombo said." "The Prime Minister sent a strong message to Iran and the world that he would not gamble with the security of the State of Israel. I support Israel's right to defend against aggression."

During his speech to AIPAC, Netanyahu held up a copy of the 1944 letter from the US War Department rejecting world Jewish leaders' entreaties to bomb the Auschwitz death camp because, he said, "It would be ineffective and might provoke even more vindictive action by the Germans."

Netanyahu went on to say: "My friends 2012 is not 1944. Today we have a state of our own and the purpose of the Jewish State is to defend Jewish lives and to secure the Jewish future. As Prime Minister of Israel, I will never let my people live in the shadow of annihilation."

"I echo the sentiments of the roaring applause and standing ovation," Palombo said. "Netanyahu's words resonate with me as I recall the days when you could substitute American for Jewish and the meaning would be just as clear; Don't Tread on Me. There will be no world stability without a strong America and a strong Israel."

"The Jewish people ask only to live in peace, without fear, and without threat," Palombo said. "I want to assure the Jewish people that as a member of Congress, I will fight to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and I will fight for Israel as I would for the United States of America."
