Pro-Life Pediatrician and Conservative Political Outsider Files for Republican Nomination in NC's 3rd Congressional District

Dr. Joan Perry
Kinston, NC     The mom of five boys and a pediatrician for over thirty years, Dr. Joan Perry announced her campaign for the special election in North Carolina's Third Congressional District. A conservative Republican and avid marathon runner, Perry filed her paperwork with the Federal Election Commission today, kicking off a sprint to the April 30th Primary Election. Having never run for office before now, she is most passionate about her work leading Bible studies, serving as camp doctor at YMCA Camp Seafarer and The Refuge, and helping to mentor the next generation of Eastern North Carolinians.

"I've never run for political office before, and I don't believe Congress is a promotion or a career," stated Perry. "I'm a pro-life pediatrician who's dedicated my life to loving God with my whole heart, soul, strength, and mind - and loving my neighbors more than myself. After seeing the New York legislature applaud late-term abortion and hearing Virginia's governor advocate for infanticide, I believe we need a strong voice for the defenseless. Eastern North Carolina deserves another conscious-driven advocate for our conservative values and Christian faith -- above political party or the power players of the political establishment. We must send someone to Washington who will challenge the status quo and make a difference for us."

Dr. Joan Perry is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, where she was one of the first women to earn the Morehead Scholarship. She earned appointments to the UNC Board of Governors, Gov. Pat McCrory's health and human services transition team, and Gov. Jim Martin's North Carolina Day Care Commission. She lives in Kinston, NC with her husband Jimbo Perry where they have housed more than 25 youth and young adults who needed a loving home. They helped to start Grace Fellowship Church over 25 years ago and remain active members today.
