Dr. Greg Murphy's "A Rating" Earns the National Rifle Association's PVF Endorsement in Republican Primary

"The Second Amendment is placed that high up in the Bill of Rights for a reason. I will always protect law abiding citizens right to keep and bear arms and oppose the liberal left's assault on gun ownership rights."— State Representative Dr. Greg Murphy

Greenville, NC — Dr. Greg Murphy has received another key endorsement, this time from the National Rifle Associations Political Victory Fund. Murphy's strong defense of the Second Amendment was clear in his voting record in the North Carolina State Legislature, earning him an "A rating" from America's preeminent gun rights organization, made up of nearly five million members. According to the NRA, an "A" rating is reserved for a solidly pro-gun legislator who has supported NRA positions on key votes and issues.

"The Second Amendment is placed that high up in the Bill of Rights for a reason. I will always protect law abiding citizens right to keep and bear arms and oppose the liberal left's assault on gun ownership rights" Murphy said after learning of the endorsement. "I'm proud to not only carry this endorsement, but with it a promise to the millions of law abiding citizens who understand the importance of the Second Amendment that I will never support legislation that limits their Constitutional rights."

In an announcement release, NRA-PVF Chairman Chris W. Cox, listed numerous reasons why Murphy earned the endorsement. "NRA members and gun owners appreciate that during your time in the General Assembly, you voted for 'Constitutional Carry' legislation, which would allow law-abiding citizens to carry a concealed handgun in North Carolina" Cox said. "In addition, you have shown your commitment to North Carolina's hunting heritage by voting for an amendment to the North Carolina Constitution that affirms the right of the public to hunt, fish and harvest wildlife, as well as voting to expand hunting opportunities in North Carolina." Cox finished by saying "Finally, we thank you for opposing the Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Michael Bloomberg agenda of banning guns, ammunition, magazines and creating a so-called 'universal' background check system that would criminalize the private transfer of firearms, which is only enforceable through federal firearms registration."

Murphy has been a champion for gun ownership rights and when the inevitable debate comes up after violence involving guns, Murphy consistently points out that it is a mental health problem, not a gun problem. "I will continue to push for more access to mental health treatment in America. These shootings have nothing to do with gun laws and everything to do with disturbed individuals who desperately need mental health treatment." As the only practicing medical doctor in the State Legislature, Dr. Murphy has also led the movement to curb the State's opioid crisis.
