Press Release:

The average age of the GOP 3rd Congressional District Convention dropped several years when three dozen under-40 year-old Republicans showed up as delegates.
Some of the youth participants.
Held at Beaufort Community College on Saturday April 21st, the young folks were there to debate their resolutions they had submitted at the County level conventions. Resolutions that passed included Auditing the Federal Reserve, the Farmer's Freedom Act, and Sovereignty from the United Nations among others that were all submitted by these young people in their County Conventions.

Even the hotly contested resolution to End the Afghanistan War Immediately just barely lost with a vote 80 to 91, with the young people leading the charge to end the fiscally troubling war.

Nearly all of the young patriots were bearing red, white and blue 'Adams for NC House 6' stickers (a candidate who himself is also only 35 years old), they were there as a group but had representatives in a majority of the 19 counties in attendance at the convention. Adams said, "Our campaign and other campaigns around the country have been really working hard to get young people involved in politics. Like Plato once wisely employed, 'Just because you don't take an interest in politics, doesn't mean that politics won't take an interest in you.' Plato's advice is being well heeded by young people these days."

The youth at 3rd District showed unity in their efforts and also got several elected positions, including Executive Committee memberships, a Republican National Committee alternate in Shawn Daniels, and a pretty decent bid for District Chairman, as the challenger, relative newcomer Phil Routszong gained nearly 40% of the vote against incumbent Bob Pruett. Had he been able to deliver a speech, as is normally is the custom, young Routszong may have been able to pull off an upset. Not only did they themselves unite, but they easily worked within the party to form coalitions on issues and other elections showing that while they had their own independent views, they were also team players and intend to work within the Republican party.

The GOP has long been in danger of morphing from the "Grand Old Party" to just the "Old Party", but it looks like these young people may have plans to stop that trend. Young people in the Republican party in eastern North Carolina are gaining a voice and they are looking for a Big Tent Republican party. There are many up and coming leaders among them.
