Frances M. Barnes Memorial Scholarship Recipients Announced

    The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following scholarship recipients for the new Frances M. Barnes Memorial Scholarship. The BCCC Foundation is currently raising funds through an online auction to support scholarships. Registration is open for Spring 2021 classes.

    Frances M. Barnes Trust scholarships are awarded to Martin County curriculum and continuing educations attending BCCC who intend to reside and work in Martin County upon course completion. Students must meet respective scholarship guidelines for the curriculum or continuing education program of study, show satisfactory academic progress and demonstrate financial need.


    McKenzie Drew, 19, received the Frances M. Barnes Trust Scholarship. The Williamston resident is part of the Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses (RIBN) program. Drew attended Riverside High School and plans to work at Vidant Medical Center. She is the daughter of Beverly and Mike Drew of Williamston.






    Kaitlyn Hall, 20, received the Frances M. Barnes Trust Scholarship. The Williamston resident is a nursing student. Hall attended Bear Grass Charter School. She is the daughter of Rick and Beth Hall of Williamston. She plans to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.






    Kristen Hardison, 19, received the Frances M. Barnes Memorial Scholarship. The Williamston resident is a nursing student. She attended Bear Grass Charter School and plans to work as a nurse. She currently works in food prep at Deadwood Restaurant.







    Laney Leggett, 18, received the Frances M. Barnes Memorial Scholarship. The Martin County resident is a nursing student. She attended Bear Grass Charter School and plans to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing while working at Vidant Beaufort Hospital. She is the daughter of Penny and Ernie Coltrain. Leggett currently works as the head lifeguard at Moore Aquatic and Fitness Center.





    Haylee Perry, 19, received the Frances M. Barnes Memorial Scholarship. The Williamston resident is a nursing student. She attended Bear Grass Charter School. She is the daughter of Brian and Renee Perry of Williamston and plans complete nursing school, pass the NCLEX, and become a registered nurse. She then plans to study more to become a pediatric nurse. Perry currently works as a floater at Community Christian Child Care.




    Taryn Roberson, 19, received the Frances M. Barnes Memorial Scholarship. The Jamesville resident is a nursing student. She attended Riverside High School and plans to work as a nurse practitioner. She is the daughter of Lois and Kenneth Roberson.







    Morgan Taylor, 19, received the Frances M. Barnes Memorial Scholarship. The Williamston resident is part of the nursing program. She attended Riverside High School and plans to work at Vidant Medical Center. She is the daughter of Mike and Michelle Taylor of Williamston.






    Brittany Williams, 29, received the Frances M. Barnes Memorial Scholarship. The Williamston resident is working toward an Associate Degree in Nursing. Williams attended New Horizons Homeschool and holds an Associate Degree in Equine Technology and certifications in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-Basic, EMT-Intermediate and EMT-Paramedic. She is a mother of two and the wife of Brandon Williams. She plans to work as an emergency department nurse and continue to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
