The Truth about Candidate Obama's Use of the Liar Joe Soptic | Eastern North Carolina Now

Publisher's note: This remarkable article of truth, by Marvin Sparks, well establishes outstanding lie spread by Candidate Barack Obama Surrogates: Joe Soptic and super PAC, Priorities USA. BCN worked this issue into a larger group of lies proffered by the Candidate and his underlings, but we did not give this issue the measure of inspection provided by Contributor Sparks.

I am sure that every one has either seen or heard about the brutal attack ad that a super PAC, Priorities USA, unleashed against Mitt Romney. The ad features an interview with Joe Soptic who worked at GST Steel when it was acquired by Bain Capital in 1993. Bain invested millions of dollars in updating the aging equipment, but it just couldn't compete against Chinese imports. Therefore, GST Steel declared bankruptcy and closed the plant in 2001, which was two years after Romney turned over management control to other executives of Bain. However, to Joe Soptic, it didn't matter that Romney no longer controlled the company or that the plant could no longer continue to operate, it was Romney's fault that the plant closed, and it was Romney's fault that insurance could no longer be provided for the Soptic family by GST Steel. However, Mrs. Soptic was working at another company, and the family was covered by her insurance.
Former widower, and current liar Joe Septic: Above.

Mrs. Soptic was injured and had to quit her job which at that point left the family with no insurance. Mrs. Soptic became sick and died in 2006, which was years after Romney left Bain and the plant closed. However, Joe Soptic blamed Romney personally for his wife's death. "I do not think that Mitt Romney realizes what he has done to anyone," Soptic concludes, "And furthermore, I do not think Mitt Romney is concerned."

This ad was put out by Bill Burton, a former White House aide, and when he was asked about it he stated that her death was still related to Romney's oversight of Bain. Burton went on defending his ad.:

"We're illustrating how long it took for communities and individuals to recover from the closing of these businesses, " Burton said, "Families and individuals had to find new jobs, new sources of health insurance, and a way to make up for the pensions they lost. Mitt Romney has had an enduring impact on the lives of thousands of men and women and for many of them, that impact has been devastating."

Mitt Romney was not responsible for Mrs. Soptic's death nor was he responsible for disrupting the lives the laid off workers of GST Steel. However, it is ironic that the man responsible for this ad, Barrack Obama, is at this very minute destroying jobs and devastating people's lives on a massive scale. Yet, there is no outcry from the media, and the voices of victims are silenced. And one has to wonder how long it will take for communities and individuals to recover from Obama's deliberate demoralization.

It is hard to imagine, but the President of the United States, Barrack Obama, has declared war on fossil fuel. He claims to want to use all forms of energy, but his words do not match his actions.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator, Curt Spalding, stated the decision to kill coal was painful, but the head of the EPA, Lisa Jackson was committed to destroying the coal industry. If it was painful for the EPA, it will be far more painful for those who will lose their jobs and pay skyrocketing electricity prices. There was a video that surfaced recently by another EPA Administrator who admitted that the EPA's general philosophy was to: crucify and make examples of all oil and gas companies...

The EPA has a new regulation called Utility MACT. The Obama-EPA doesn't want you to know what it is or how much it will cost. It is the first step to kill the coal industry in the USA. Right now 50% of our electricity comes from coal, so you can imagine what will happen to energy costs, as well as the millions of jobs that will be lost.

Utility MACT is the centerpiece of President Obama's effort to kill coal; Utility MACT is specifically designed to close down existing plants, while the Obama-EPA's greenhouse gas regulations are specifically designed to prevent any new plants from being built. Utility MACT has such strict standards that many plants can't met them, and will close 20% of America's coal fired plants, which will cost $300 to $400 billion dollars a year and destroy over two million jobs. The EPA's tailoring rule is a regulation that the EPA is attempting to create to subvert the law, and if they succeed every church, every school, every restaurant and coffee shop will have to be regulated or put out of business by the EPA.

Last November, the Office of the Inspector General confirmed that the EPA has been deliberately and systematically slowing the pace of permits for new plants in Appalachia. The EPA has revoked a lawfully issued mining permit that the Bush Corps of Engineers had granted. A U.S. District Judge ruled that the EPA exceeded its authority, and the EPA's claim that it can veto a permit already issued is a stunning power for an agency to arrogate to itself.

Last month, 24 state attorneys general filed suit to overturn Utility MACT because of the devastating effects it will have on jobs and their state's economies. According to the National Economic Research Associates, Utility MACT will destroy 180,000 to 215,000 jobs by 2015. And with other, new EPA regulations on the electric power sector, the economy stands to lose approximately 1.65 million jobs by 2020.

According to Nucor Steel, a 1 cent increase in electricity rates costs the firm $120 million. These extra costs could endanger a million manufacturing jobs outside the coal and utility industries. In Avon Lake, Ohio, the closure of the local power plant will cost the school system 11% of its budget. Besides the 80 high quality jobs lost at the plant, the city will have fewer resources for its paramedic and firefighting services. This story will be replicated in every community across the country.

President Obama will say that the reason they are phasing out coal is because natural gas is cheaper, but again look at what he is doing not what he is saying. He has given marching orders to shut down oil and gas production. The Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune explained, "As we push to retire coal plants we're going to work to make sure we're not simultaneously switching to natural gas. And we are going to be preventing new gas plants from being built wherever we can."

In reality, Utility MACT will harm the public by increasing unemployment, as well established risk factor for elevated illness and mortality rates. Unemployment is also a factor in mental disorders, suicide, alcoholism, and decreases in life expectancy. Higher electricity bills will hurt the poor and the elderly the most by diverting funds from living expenses such as food, rent, and medical care.

President Obama is telling us exactly what he wants to do, but he is not telling us what the consequences are and how it will affect each and every one of us.

I mined the information relating to Utility MACT from a speech that Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla) gave on the Senate floor. He and the Republican Party are fighting to head off this disaster, but they need our support. I hope you, too, will tell Obama to stop his war against fossil fuel.
