The Beaufort County Republican Party has adopted the following Statement of Core Values: | Eastern North Carolina Now

    For Immediate Release:

GOP CORE VALUES

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY--less government spending. Reduce taxes. No debt without a vote of the people.

IMPROVE OUR ECONOMY--less government intervention, elimination of crony capitalism and greater support for free enterprise.

GREATER INDIVIDUAL LIBERTIES--reverse the current trend of more and more government control of our lives, our property and society.

REDUCE GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS--provide an environment in which private enterprise can flourish.

TRANSPARENCY IN GOVERNMENT--Eliminate the "Culture of Corruption."

INTEGRITY IN GOVERNMENT and HONEST ELECTIONS--Insist on voter photo ID to register and to vote then to proceed to reform campaign finance laws.

TRADITIONAL FAMILY VALUES--Support for a strict interpretation and implementation of the N. C. "Marriage Amendment" and opposition to abortion.

SECOND AMENDMENT--Support for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and opposition to infringement of that right by local, state, federal or international governmental executive or legislative action.

According to Hickman, these Core Values will be posted on the County GOP's website at www.beaufortcountygop.com with links to more detailed explanations about each point. By the first week in October, the plan is to offer every candidate an opportunity to explain what their position is on each one of the values and to post that on the County GOP website. "We hope each candidate will address how he or she intends to support each of the values we have identified as being core principles. There are certainly other values Republicans believe in but we felt it was important to focus on the core principles we believe in and then to clearly communicate that to the voters. We are very confident that a majority of people support those values. But at very least it will tell voters what they can expect from candidates who run as Republicans," said Hickman.

Hickman went on to say: "Our number one objective is to retire Barack Obama. We will do everything we can to help maintain a Republican majority in the U. S. House, gain a majority in the U. S. Senate and then elect a Republican governor and legislature in North Carolina. We will be working very hard to elect three Republicans to the Beaufort County Commission."

Hickman continued, "We urge all voters to inform themselves about the candidates and we will be glad to assist in that effort if we can. Keep checking www.beaufortcountygop.com and stop by the GOP Headquarters at 208 N. Market St. in Washington," Hickman concluded.

The action was taken Tuesday August 21, 2012 in the regular monthly meeting of the GOP Executive Committee.
