"Freedom of Expression" for Me, but not for Thee | Eastern NC Now

First Amendment protections against laws that abridge the "freedom of speech" were twisted into "freedom of expression" to justify protection for flag-burners and government subsidies for masterpieces like "Piss Christ" (a crucifix in a jar of urine).

Publisher's note: Brant Clifton offers a clear vision of the dual conflict of Freedom of Speech and Muslim "hate groups" in his "bare knuckles" Conservative online publication known as The Daily Haymaker.

Lefties often do amazing things with the U.S. Constitution. Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable, warrantless search and seizures by government officials were twisted to create a "right to abortion." First Amendment protections against laws that abridge the "freedom of speech" were twisted into "freedom of expression" to justify protection for flag-burners and government subsidies for masterpieces like "Piss Christ" (a crucifix in a jar of urine).

We're told to keep our narrow-minded, unenlightened opinions to ourselves when we get upset over Hollywood (ABC's Good Christian Bitches) and Broadway's (Nunsense and Doubt, which mock Catholicism, and The Book of Mormon, which mocks the Mormon faith) blatant disrespect for people of faith. Remember "freedom of expression"?

Since 9/11, we've gotten a lot of lectures from politicos, in the same federal government that subsidizes all kinds of mockery of Christianity, that we need to show proper respect and tolerance for Islam. Where are the Muslims speaking out against the anti-American violence? Is violence ever a proper response to a theatrical production you don't like?

Meanwhile, HBO's jerk-in-residence Bill Maher produces a film mocking all kinds of religion (even Islam), which earns him all kinds of critical acclaim despite a poor box office showing. Candidate Hussein Obama's reelection campaign gladly accepts a $1 million contribution from Maher.

Currently, the world is being rocked by ALL kinds of anti-American violence. Administration officials -- and some Islamist nutjobs -- have tried to blame a YouTube video released BACK IN JUNE to an audience of 12 -- for all of the trouble. Why is the administration all bent out of shape over this little-watched YouTube video, but NOT about Maher's big-budget Hollywood film?

Maher's film was produced by lefties who gave money to the right cause: BARRY. The YouTube video was produced by a practicing Coptic Christian. Don't those Christians know they are supposed to shut their mouths and tolerate everything lefties say and do?
Barry going full fascist in a "1984" manner: Above.

In a scene ripped from the pages of an Orwell novel -- and ANY objective historical account of The Soviet Union -- the YouTube video guy was picked up by AMERICAN authorities for -- ahem -- "questioning."

Several media accounts try to link the YouTube guy to groups declared "hate groups" by the Southern Poverty Law Center -- a group that labels ANYONE who dares to be a vocal critic of liberalism a "purveyor of hate." Rush Limbaugh and The Family Research Council -- a respected, mainstream religious right lobbying group -- have been tagged by the SPLC as "haters." So, you can kind of get a feel for THAT group's leanings.

Meanwhile, Islamist nutbags are being released from Club Gitmo so they can go back to the Middle East and pick up where they left off - attacking US troops and American civilians.

Stuff like this illustrates the crossroad our nation has reached and the importance of the November elections.

As for what "lefties" do with the constitution, the Roe v. Wade decision was 7-2. Five of the seven Majority Justices behind that decision were appointed by Republican presidents.......three of them by Nixon, that notorious "lefty." And you seem to take issue with the fact that the first amendment permits flag-burning. You'd prefer a more "Orwellian" approach to law enforcement?

According to the article about the YouTube "video guy" your article links to, he was picked up by "AMERICAN authorities" because he's currently on probation. He's been convicted of financial crimes and the "authorities" suspected him of violating the terms of his probation. Nothing even close to Orwellian government action.

As for Bill Maher, he's a comedian. I agree that he's incredibly smug and obnoxious but the film you reference definitely cannot be compared to the anti-Muslim film on YouTube. I haven't seen it but I read this in a description of it: "Maher goes to a Creationist Museum in Kentucky, which shows that dinosaurs and people lived at the same time 5000 years ago." That actually sounds pretty funny. I might have to check that movie out.

Also, I must have missed the segment of the evening news with members of Obama's administration saying the producer of that YouTube video was responsible for the embassy attacks. Could you provide a link to that particular segment?

The Family Research Council is a "respected, mainstream religious right lobbying group"? First of all, "respected" by whom? Secondly, how can an organization be "mainstream" and "religious right" at the same time?

And the Islamist nutbags at Gitmo......do you happen to remember which administration put them there? What do you think should be done with them? Sorry for all the questions, Brant, but you're right........."stuff like this illustrates the crossroads our nation has reached" and I think asking questions like these helps keep the conversation honest.
