Nancy Mertice Hudson Wallace | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Nancy Mertice Hudson Wallace, age 89, a resident of Washington, NC, died Thursday, November 17, 2022 at her home.

    A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, November 19, 2022 at ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Pamlico Memorial Gardens and will be officiated by Rev. Doug Batchelor. Jeremy Wallace, Steven Sheppard, Michael Sheppard, Joe Hudson, Jr., Scott Hudson, and Lisa Hudson Linker will serve as pallbearers. Briley Wallace and Wyatt Wallace will serve as honorary pallbearers.

    Mrs. Wallace was born in Cabarrus County, NC on October 18, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Adam Roger Hudson and Virginia Ruth Miller Hudson of Concord, NC. She worked at National Spinning Co. for 24 years before retiring. Mrs. Wallace was a member of Love Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas.

    On June 1, 1950, she married Cecil Jefferson Wallace, who preceded her in death on April 15, 2004.

    Mrs. Wallace is survived by three daughters, Kathy W. Hardy (Billy), Carolyn Ann W. Sheppard, and Sandra W. Stuart (Daryl). One brother, Adam Ronald Hudson (Linda) of Houston, TX and her cousin "sister", Doris Blackley of Concord, NC. Three grandchildren, Jeremy Wallace (Shana), Steven Sheppard (Jennifer), and Michael Sheppard, all of Washington. Four step-grandchildren, David Hardy (Cortney) of Aurora, NC, Lee Stuart (Asp), Angel Michalski (Andy) of South Carolina and Ray Sheppard. Three great-grandchildren, Riley Wallace and Wyatt Wallace of Greenville, NC, and Layla Wallace of Washington, NC. Six step-great-grandchildren, Kara and Abby Hardy of Aurora, NC. Sophia, Gavin, and Serenity Michalski, and Robert Stuart, all of South Carolina.

    She was very proud of her grandsons and the path they chose volunteering for Clark's Neck Fire Dept. when they were teenagers. She was always thankful and credited the firemen as mentors in their youth. Our mother loved her family and dedicated her life to us. She loved her many nieces and nephews, her friends. She never met a stranger.

    Mrs. Wallace was also preceded in death by two sisters, Kathryn Hudson Crotzer and Mollye Hudson Canaday, six brothers, Roger Hudson, Sr., Manuel Hudson, Calvin Hudson, Joe Hudson, Sr., Aubrey Hudson, and infant brother, James Hudson.

    The family of Nancy Wallace would especially like to thank the staff of angels from Community Health Care and Hospice for their dedication to assisting and helping others. Many thanks to Sheila, Brooke, Tina, Hope, Stacy, Kathy, Steven, their chaplain, and Kristy, their social worker, and the many others for their love and devotion to our mother and her care.

    A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, November 18, 2022 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home, 2408 West Fifth Street, Washington, NC 27889.
