NBC Pulls Report That Raised New Questions About Pelosi Attack

    NBC attempted to scuttle a report on Friday after a news update on the violent attack against Paul Pelosi appeared to raise new questions about the context in which the attack occurred.

    The segment featured on-the-ground reporting from Miguel Almaguer in San Francisco, California, who described some of the new details that had come out in the week since the attack that put House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband in the hospital (he was released on Thursday and is expected to make a full recovery).

    Almaguer's report noted that when police were dispatched to the Pelosi home, they were informed that the case was "high priority" but were not aware that it was the House speaker's house. They did not arrive on the scene until some 30 minutes after the call was made, presumably meaning that Pelosi was alone with his attacker for at least that amount of time.

    The report went on to say that Pelosi himself opened the door when police arrived, and made no attempt to flee the home once authorities were on the scene. Instead, he went back into the house - walking away from police and toward his attacker. Source said that, at the time, police could not determine whether Pelosi had already sustained any injuries.

    When officers asked whether everything was all right, suspect David DePape told them that everything was fine - after which he allegedly attacked Pelosi in full view of the police.

    A short time after Almaguer's report aired, however, NBC removed the video from the site and added an editor's note that read, without any further explanation, "The piece should not have aired because it did not meet NBC News reporting standards."

    "'Why Pelosi didn't try to flee, or tell responding officers he was in distress, is unclear,'" National Review's Jim Geraghty tweeted. "Note this is from NBC News' The Today Show, not OAN or Newsmax or whatever."

    The Blaze captured the video and shared it, however.

    "Now @NBCNews has completely scrubbed this video because it doesn't meet their 'reporting standards.' Why? Which fact did he get wrong? And why does it keep happening in this story?" Jim Treacher asked.

    NBC did not clarify which part of the report did not meet the "standard" cited in the editor's note.
