The benefits of a constitutional convention outweigh the risks | Eastern North Carolina Now

The following amendments to the Constitution of the United States will allow us to continue to be a great nation for another 200 years. Without them we will become a socialist quagmire.

AMMENDMENT XXVIII: English shall be the official language of the United States. There shall be no requirement for a dual language of any person.

AMENDMENT XXIX: Each state may enact and enforce laws protecting its borders and citizens from trespass by any person not a citizen of the United States.

AMENDMENT XXX: The treasury shall not be used to pay for abortions.

AMENDMENT XXXI: Payment shall not be made from the treasury until an annual budget has been passed by Congress and signed by the President; neither shall debts of the United States be legally obligated to anyone or anything during he time the Federal government operates without a budget. Budgets may not be enacted retroactively. Prior obligations shall be payable at the time of enactment of this amendment.

AMENDMENT XXXII: Congress shall not lay any benefit on its self or any person that is not granted to the public. Henceforth, members of Congress and the President shall not have retirement benefits or any other benefits paid by the treasury after their term of office is complete..

AMENDMENT XXXIII: Candidates for and members of Congress and the President shall not accept campaign donations from lobbyists, any entity that has or may have legislation forth coming or any entity that contracts with or may contract with the government. Campaign donations to candidates for Congress or the President shall be from personal funds up to maximum per candidate of one percent of the donors taxable income for the year preceding the election. Donations are tax deductible. Candidates for and members of the Congress and the President may not accept donations in any form from any other source.

AMENDMENT XXXIV: Candidates for Congress and President shall present proof of citizenship at the time of filing for office. Any citizen may challenge said documents by petition to the Supreme Court. The challenge shall be heard within thirty calendar days with decision in writing within another fifteen calendar days.

AMENDMENT XXXV: Neither Congress nor the President shall use the treasury or any vestige of the Federal Government to subvert the bankruptcy laws.

Our government is dis-functional. The founders provided for a Constitutional Conventions in order to have bloodless revolutions in times such as we have today.

Many people are afraid of having a Convention. I have been told that such a Convention would be very dangerous and destructive to the future of the United States. I agreed with this until the benefits of a Convention become greater than the risks. We are there.

Those who seem to have the strongest negative opinions about a Convention also are strong supporters of the Constitution. I have trouble understanding this

A lot of human psychology goes into stepping into the Constitutional void. We need more faith in ourselves and belief that there are still a few good men. Spending is out of control and Congress is muscle bound. The Supreme Court, Congress and the President are clueless about the Constitution and the reasoning of the Founding Fathers.

The above amendments use only about 360 words. There is no other way we will solve the problems facing our nation any simpler than this.

It is true the rules for a Convention are not clear. We will have to work them out on the way. I believe our nation is capable of holding he Convention is a dignified and civil way that will allow us to go forward in a successfully positive way.

There are adequate checks and balances to the decisions of a Convention. Super majority votes are required. Three quarters of the states individually or three quarters in convention must approve each amendment.

There is another way to get the Constitution amended. By a two thirds vote, the House and Senate approve amendments to the Constitution, and three quarters of the states then approve the amendments. Do you think any of the amendments presented in this article will ever get approved by the House and Senate? Our government is dysfunctional.

Our leaders have been unable to resolve our problems and now "we the people" must take this bull by the horns.
