Mr. George “Bennie” Ambrose, age 76, a resident of Millfield Road, Bath, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at his home.

    Mr. George "Bennie" Ambrose, age 76, a resident of Millfield Road, Bath, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at his home.

    The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, October 27, 2023, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at his home.

    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Hunter's Bridge Church of Christ, Hwy 264 East, Pinetown, conducted by Bud Ball. A burial will follow at Everett's Community Cemetery.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Paul Woolard, Charly Respess, Chad Giles, Rayce Wallace, Colton Elliott, and Ryan Brickhouse. Members of the Bath Volunteer Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.

    Mr. Ambrose was born in Beaufort County on May 27, 1947. He was the son of the late George Ricks Ambrose and Annie Mae Everett Ambrose. Mr. Ambrose served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he met his wife of 55 years. After they were married, he spent most of his career as a truck driver, hauling both locally and all over the United States. He was also a member of the Bath Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years. Mr. Ambrose was selected County Fireman of the Year twice over the years. He was an active member of Hunter's Bridge Church of Christ where he served as an Elder. He thoroughly enjoyed participating in all church activities and events. Mr. Ambrose enjoyed old cars, old tractors, and listening to Oldies and Southern Gospel Music.

    Mr. Ambrose was married to the Former Barbara Sue Barton, who survives.

    Surviving with his wife are his daughters, Melissa Austin (Scott) of Aurora, Beverly Wallace (Ted) of Pinetown, Heather Elliott of Pinetown; son, Jake Ambrose (Jessica) of Bath; brother, Galin Ambrose (Gail) of Bath; sister, Cindy Ambrose of Bath; and nine grandchildren, Harley Brickhouse, Rayce Wallace, Sam Wallace, Bethany Austin, Garrett Austin, Colton Elliott, Claire Ambrose, Emily Ambrose, and Charlotte Ambrose.

    In addition to his parents, Mr. Ambrose was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Ambrose.
