Germany's "traffic light coaltion" national government is teetering on collapse as one of its partners, the classical liberal Free Democrats, which support low taxes and small government and are the odd couple party in the coalition see increasing demands by their party leaders and activists to abandon the coalition and force a snap election. The Free Democrats have been abandoned by a significant part of their usual voter base since joining this coalition and have lost all of their seats in many state parliaments in a series of state elections.
The anti-immigration populist / nationalist Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) has gained four points in four weeks to soar into a clear lead in a new poll in the eastern German state of Saxony, with the tradtional conservative CDU in second place, and no other party even in double digits. Two of the three parties in the national government coalition would lose all their seats in the state Landtag (parliament), and it would be the first time the Social Democrats had failed to win seats in any state landtag since the Second World War.
Saxony votes later this year in its state election, which is likely to send shock waves through German politics.
The poll for a German media group by German pollster Civey puts AfD on 37% and the CDU on 33%. The lead party in the national governing coaltion, the Social Democrats are on 3% and one of its coalition partners, the classical liberal Free Democrats on 1%, putting both well below the 5% treshold required to be awarded any seats in the landtag. The Green Party, the other national coalition partner would muddle through with 7%, while the far left Left Party is on 8%.
This poll gives the two parties of the right a combined 70% of the vote. The current leadership of the CDU has moved substantially to the right on immigration issues since Merkel left its leadership.
The number for the Left Party is probably too high because that party recently split at the national level, with its former floor leader Sahra Wagenkrecht founding a new anti-immigration populist party of the left which also opposes the expensive green energy transition. National polls have shown Wagenkrecht attracting a bigger portion of the Left Party vote than the remaining rump of the party, but in any event that 8% will be split two ways.
Curiously, Saxony was known in Wilhelmine and Weimar Germany as "Red Saxony" due to its propensity to vote for first the Social Democrats and then the Social Democrats and Communists. How things have changed!
This video with English translation shows the good common sense of the AfD with a speech to the German Bundestag by AfD leader Alice Weidel:

That video of German AfD leader Alice Weidel is amazing. She is Donald Trump in a skirt. Indeed, its too bad she can't come over here and be his running mate. The Germans have had a belly full of illegal alien invasion.

There are many people who overlook the brilliance of the US Constitution. They argue that it is outdated and unfit to adequately govern such a modern nation as ours in the 21st century.
