Well, my record is to spend smart money on narcotics interdiction, and I expect the Sheriff to continue to keep busting those who are involved with the illicit trade.
I despise narcotics and the stupidity that is so overwhelming by its users. But two things you have to know: the Zimmerman case does not effect any of this, and I am not responsible for the streets of Washington, I only set policy for the funding of a sheriff that is only partly responsible for these societal ills. The Sheriff, and I may not agree on everything, but the sheriff's dept. does a good job of busting the perpetrators of these evil tools. |
Would you consider this to concern your "local folk"? A street in Washington, middle of town. Within 6 MONTHS time the following has happened: a murder, two break ins; two drug raids; two houses that can't keep occupants because of drug dealers...and one drug dealer arrested for selling cocaine within a certain distance of a school....that said drug dealer's girlfriend being pulled on hwy 264 with coke in the car ready to sell. Doesn't get any more "local folk" than that. And one of those arrested has several "Priors"...yet he's free to sell drugs to school kids. It concerns me.

Take a good look around Washington. Get out and ride down the streets in the center of town. Get out and walk on those streets. Places that were once safe places to live are now inhabited by drug dealers, shootings/murders, break-ins (on the SAME road all within 6 months). Everyone turns a blind eye to it. Washington to NOT safe. Sure, the drug dealers MAY be arrested, but they're turned loose and put on "probation"....yet, they are still dealing the drugs. They go right back home and start dealing the same day they get back home. In one neighborhood, there has been a murder, three drug raids, and two houses that can't keep occupants due to drug dealings, and TWO break ins that have been called into WPD. It's a shame when the WPD tells you that they "can't guarantee someone can do a drive by" when it's a single female living in the middle of all this. So, if that's not affecting the "local folks", I don't know what is.

I tend to only be concerned about issues that directly effect my local folks.
The Zimmerman trial will not effect local folks in any way whatsoever. It will not even set legal precedent since North Carolina does not have a "Stand Your Ground" provision in our self-defense statutes. What I am concerned about is that there is a growing number of Americans that are oblivious to real issues that do effect them, and may effect not only them but their grandchildren as well. The challenge over the next number of decades is that North Carolinians and all Americans must endeavor to get much smarter than they are now, or they will continue to be responsible for electing politicians that are not capable of solving real problems that are very important to the continuance of this Republic. So, the whole Zimmerman trial is not on the radar for me, and really most everyone I actually respect for their intellect as problem solvers. |
If you don't care about the trial then do not watch it. Someone was murdered...and someone is on trial. If it was YOUR family member that was murdered, you'd be concerned. Again, if it was YOUR family member that is on trial, you'd be concerned. It's a tragedy to both families. I would think that the position you are in, what ever Boards you're or on or even a citizen of Washington, you WOULD be concerned. Same thing CAN, HAS and WILL happen in Washington.
