ECU programs aim for positive influence on youth

Learning opportunities at East Carolina University expand beyond the college-age crowd each summer when the university opens its doors to students from kindergarten through high school.

Summer campers flock to ECU in June, July and August for instruction in topics that range from insects to algorithms, from atmospheric science to classical guitar. Running the programs are ECU faculty, staff and students - committed to offering good times and good learning opportunities, while also serving as a positive influence on campers.

    Programs offered include the following:

  • Summer Ventures, a four-week residential camp that includes instruction and a research project.

  • Summer Science Camp, for science and math enthusiasts from second through eighth grade.

  • Drama Camp, School of Theatre and Dance, structured to allow children to explore their creativity through theater.

  • Summer Guitar Workshop, offering classical guitar training for all skill levels and ages through the ECU School of Music.

  • Summer Band Camp, intense instruction in marching band for students ranging in age from 11 to 17.

  • Suzuki Institute, a week of instruction in the official Suzuki strings method.

  • Recreation Nation or Rec Junior, offered by ECU Campus Recreation and Wellness, helping children stay active all summer.
