Polls and pundits alike point to Republican Sen. J. D. Vance as the winner of the vice presidential debate. The major British newspaper the Daily Mail of London took a poll of American voters and found that 50% said Vance won, 43% said Walz won and 7% were not sure. Other polls also showed Vance the winner.

The debate degenerated into a three on one contest, with the so-called "moderators" jumping in to debate against Vance, and even cut off Vance's mic when he tried to set them straight. Veteran journalist Brit Hume, now with Fox News, who has himself moderated presidential debates, commented "the moderators were obnoxious and made it feel like three on one on Vance. Vance was just fine."

Former national journalist and herself a former presidential debate moderator Megyn Kelly said Vance "put on a mastercalls on how to handle biased moderators and a lying opponent."
The European Conservative pointed out Team CBS protected the Democrats vulnerable flanks by not asking questions that would expose them. Their take was that the losers in the debate were American voters who did not get to see the debate they should have.
