German election: CDU officer murdered by illegal alien; right soars in poll UPDATE | Eastern NC Now

After Germany's traditional conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) announced new legislation to crack down on immigration and ramp up deportations and that they would work with their rivals on the right,, the populist nationalist anti-immigration Alternativ fur Deutschland (AfD) to pass it, an illegal alien has stabbed to death a CDU party officer.

Meanwhile, the latest poll from respected British pollster YouGov of German voters shows gains by the right, estpecially the AfD, while vote for all of the parties of the recently collapsed "traffic light coalition" is cratering.  Support for AfD has increased 4 points since their last poll to 23%, and the CDU has gained 1 point to 29%.  Of the previous government, the center left Social Democrats lost 4 points to 15% and the far left Green Party lost 2 points to 13%.  Their "odd couple" coalition partner, the classical liberal Free Democrats fell another point to 3%, which is below the treshhold to win seats.

The Green Party recently doubled down on support for mass migration by calling for making it easier for migrants already in Germany to bring their relatives in chain migration.

It was already being called Germany's "Immigration election" but that has taken even more focus after a series of knifings by illegal aliens, where a 2 year old child has been one of the victims stabbed to death.  The result has been the traditional conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU), now led by longtime Merkel rival Friedrich Merz who has already pulled the party to the right, moving forward with an even more hardline anti-immigration position.  Meanwhile, Elon Musk has appeared by video link at a major rally for the CDU's rival on its right, the populist nationalist anti-immigration Alternativ fur Deutschland (AfD) and urged Germans to vote for the AfD.

The CDU has continuosrly led in polling with the AfD running second, and the governing center-left Social Democrats third.  Lately, the AfD has been gaining on the CDU.

CDU leader Merz has announced tough new legislation to crack down on illegal immigration which they want to ram through before the election.  Unlike the past where Merz has tried to shun the AfD, this time he says he is open to their support on the legislation.  This may be the first sign of a thaw that could lead to a coalition between the two parties after the election.  Merz' bill would seal the border against all illegal aliens as well as some genuine refugees and increase deportations.  He donounced the EU migration polices as failing.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk, appearing by video link at a major AfD rally in Halle, told the crowd that the German election would "determine the fate of Europe, and perhaps the world".  Musk described the AfD's platform as "common sense" and denounced the current center-left German govenrment as "totalitarian" citing their attacks on freedom of speech.  The AfD stresses a crackdown on illegal immigtation but is also calling for restoring free speech, lowering taxes, and restarting Germany's nuclear and coal electric plants while eliminating the wind turbines that have made Germany's electricity the most expensive in the world.
