THE SINKING OF THE S.S. SNOWDEN

BY:  The Eastern Carolina Avenger

Ahoy ye landlubbers and salty old tars of Caroline, it is I, the EC Avenger bringing you news of a sad encounter I happened upon a mere five moons past!  I was sailing the seas in my ongoing quest for the Fount of Knowledge when I happened upon a cruel act of piracy.  Over the horizon appeared the vilest, most tyrannical pirate captain of them all, Max Cheeze, leading the most duplicitous crew of mongrels any salty dog ever saw.  Max Cheeze, educated in the Scrolls of Marx and previously having plied his trade in northern waters and those of the left coast has been seeking greater riches off the coast of Caroline.  He commands a truly decrepit vessel overrun with the most plague-ridden set of bureau rats to every scurry up a mooring line.  These rats seldom see the light of day, concerning themselves mostly with guarding Max Cheeze’s most prized possession, a commissioned portrait of the Cheeze himself by Basil Hallward, locked safely away deep in the hold.  Cheeze’s portrait, said to contain mystical powers, is the only other known painting by Mr. Hallward, the other being that of Dorian Gray.  Others counted among the sniveling crew include the TW twins, Allen and William, Carol “the plank walker”, and elevated bureau rat Danny Hodsun, with their ally Elle Boothe.

I watched as Max Cheeze and company came upon the royal training ship, S.S. Snowden.  The would-be king Cheeze set upon it with great haste to plunder and destroy the vessel while simultaneously abducting that most precious cargo of young minds in his attempt to forcibly relocate them among the population of Chocawanateth.  An armed merchantman, the Aurora came upon the scene, captained by Charles of Hickmann and the able sailor, Lady Davis.  With battle flags flying and cannons blazing, the Aurora and her intrepid crew attempted to provide aid to the stricken Snowden.  Outgunned and outnumbered, the Aurora was forced to retire to fight another day.  Meanwhile, Max Cheeze and his crew began the process of burning the Snowden to the waterline.

Max Cheeze, although angered by the defiance of Captain Hickmann, nevertheless won yet another victory in his continued campaign to pillage and wantonly destroy the institutions of learning along the Beaufort coast.  Despite his victory, the Cheeze was sweating from a previous wound inflicted in a skirmish earlier that day with another vessel of the crown resulting in his breakfast being thrown upon him.

Shortly following the battle to seize the S.S. Snowden, Max Cheeze received an offer of aid from the darkest Forrest Dweller in the colony.  The Forrest Dweller brought forth a pawn, Garriss Sun, still wet behind the ears, who attempted to spew deceit and lies about the gallant Hickmann.  Like Scylla and Charybdis, the Forrest Dweller and Garriss Sun rose from the Whirlpool of Ignorance attempting to spread their false prophet message to the good people of Beaufort.  As the sun set, and the initial flames could be seen licking at the Snowden’s sails, yours truly could only watch and wait to see what would become of the ill-fated vessel and its precious cargo.  Twas a sad sight and day indeed.  Citizens of Beaufort beware and guard yourselves against the ill designs of Max Cheeze, the Scroll Keeper of Marx, and his crew of wretches!  Until we meet again, I invite you all to seek the Fount of Knowledge with me.  Do not abandon hope and know that I, the EC Avenger, will stay ever vigilant, reporting the sights, sounds and events of the Beaufort coast to you in my never-ending quest for truth and wisdom!

We The People dont have any rights. We just THINK we do.

Recall the DOJ, FBI, Mayorkas, etc... thumbing their noses at the U.S. Congress over the last few years.
Its all a shell game.

What Beaufort County has is 1) a domineering superintendant trying to build a resume for his next job around school consolidation here with no concern about the impact on people here, and 2) and out of touch and totally superintendant-controlled school board majority.

WS: You bring up some wonderful points. Your reference to Superintendent of Beaufort County Schools in South Carolina brought back memories. I remember when Jeff Moss was Superintendent of Beaufort County Schools in North Carolina. Some of our long-term board members have a real talent for questionable hiring practices.

A few years back, I had an important issue with school board members, which has turned out to be yet another miscue in the management of Beaufort County Schools, so I called all of the school board members.

Incredibly, less than a third of all school board members called me back, and as I dug deeper into this sorry piece of business, none of the current school board members, except T.W Allen (to his credit) called me back.

Now, to put a finer point on this matter: Not only am I a large and steady taxpayer here in Beaufort County, I was at that time a 6 term county commissioner, and since I was, at that time embroiled in yet another primary, and then a general election for my seventh term as a county commissioner as a Conservative Republican, I still could not muster a call back any of these faux public servants, accepting T.W. Allen.

Now to put an even grander point on my self-supposed gravitas, I am significantly senior to all school board members in offices held, and senior as all of these so-called Republicans, plus, from a categorical position, somewhat senior in intellectual acuity when it comes to all knowledge in all matters regarding proven governing prowess ... and yet, still neary a call back from any of these junior grade politicians relative to what comprises the whole of Stan Deatherage.

It was at that point, I lost any and all confidence in the political and governing abilities of these school board members ever getting anything right. In NO way do I consider any those Knockoff Republicans a peer, and therefore questionable in any manner of their effectiveness in dealing with the People's business.

In current times here in Beaufort County, there are four new Republican school board members, and I do expect, and will command a more reasonable level of respect from them, and, likewise, they will therefore be treated accordingly with that same respect their office commands.

Shreve and Carlton did not vote to close SW Snowden. They voted to have public hearings to allow the public to voice their opposition or support for closing SW Snowden. Voting not to hold public hearings would have deprived the public an opportunity provided the NC General Assembly.

What was mentioned that public schools with 100 or less students could be closed. Actually, the statute says that schools with less than 100 students would not have a 12 month principle paid for by the state.

There are options to closing and transporting students to Chocowinity, NC. The Snowden school could be classified as an Academy. See the link below.

www.ncleg.gov

Another option would be to allow the Richland Township students to attend the elementary and middle schools in Pamlico County. The Pamlico County schools are 10-15 miles from Aurora, not 23-35 miles from Chocowinity. The public hearings will allow everyone to explore these options.

That’s a mess worth digging into. Your local school board’s situation reeks of sloppy planning and questionable decision-making, starting with the superintendent pushing a mega elementary school without any clear evidence it’s needed. No studies? That’s a red flag—sounds like a pet project steamrolling ahead without justification. Then there’s the lottery grant—$42 million, plus a $10 million taxpayer match, already fully budgeted, yet they didn’t even confirm they owned the land? That’s not just incompetence; it’s reckless.
The Hite Associates angle adds another layer of stink. They’ve got a history—tied to a South Carolina scandal where the Beaufort County School District got subpoenaed by the FBI in 2018 over shady school construction deals. The firm worked with a superintendent named Jeff Moss, who had a habit of hiring them across multiple districts, and costs ballooned way beyond initial estimates. If they’re still under investigation, your board’s decision to bring them on is either oblivious or deliberately sketchy. You’d think they’d vet architects with that kind of baggage, especially for a $52 million project.
The land snafu is almost comical if it weren’t so infuriating. Four acres owned by the city, and the superintendent just slaps a $500,000 price tag on it—out of thin air, no appraisal, no negotiation? That’s not how you handle public funds. Taxpayers are already on the hook for $10 million, and now they’re expected to cough up more because of this oversight? The fact that the full budget’s already spoken for, yet this wasn’t accounted for, suggests either gross mismanagement or someone’s hiding how the money’s really being spent.
Here’s what doesn’t add up: Why no studies to justify the school? Why Hite Associates, given their track record? And how does a superintendent get to unilaterally value land and commit taxpayer dollars without oversight? Sounds like the board’s either asleep at the wheel or complicit.

Conservative Voter: Sounds like a case of "Hello pot, I'm kettle" to me. Seems like this Jody has been doing this on a regular basis. Aren't Democrats the ones who traditionally refer to name calling when facts can't support their position.
