UPDATE: The preliminary count shows Carney's Liberals as the largest party, but short of a majority in parliament. Their previous allies, the socialist New Democrats got the snot kicked out of them, but their remaining handful of seats would give Carney a narrow majority. There seems to be no path to a majority for the Conservatives. Thanks, Trump.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:
Six months ago, Canada's Conservative Party was in the driver's seat for this year's parliamentary election. Led by small "c:" Conservative Piere Pollievre, the Conservatives were leading Trudeau's Liberals in the polls by twenty points. They had just won several Liberal "safe seats" in special elections.
Then President Trump unfortunately injected himself into Canada's politics with the dig at Prime Minister Trudeau as "governor" of "America's 5st state". That dig was deeply offensive to Canadians across the spectrum, even if they did not like Trudeau. To make matters worse, Trump kept repeating it, rubbing salt into the wounds. It may have been cute in American politics but it was devastating to the Conservatives in Canada's politics.
Trump had a very good reason to call Trudeau on the carpet, or really two of them, Canada's failure to secure its border against illegal aliens coming into the US, and its failure to crack down on gangsters connected to the fenatyl drug operations. If he had stuck to the serious issues, most Canadians would have fully understood even if tarriffs to force compliance hurt a bit. The "51st state" comment, however, was over the top, totally unnecessary, and should have been expected to cause the complications it has.
What made the comment particularly silly is that most of Canada's provinces are largest enough in size and population that if they ever did join the US, each one would almost assuredly be its own separate state. Indeed, in recent years, there has been a growing "Wexit" (western exit) movement in Canada's four western provinces including oil rich Alberta to secede from Canada. While that movement once considering joining the US as an option, Trump's "51st state" comment has soured them on that.
Banking off the reaction to Trump's comment, the Liberals jettisoned Trudeau, brought in an even more devious globalist Mark Carney as their new leader and called an early election. Trump is now seen as the biggest issue in Canada's election, and he would not have been if he had not opened his mouth on that "51st state" dig. Polls now give the Liberals who have been playing the Trump card for all it is worth a slight lead.
Pollievre, most of whose own policy positions on both domestic and foreign issues are similar to Trump was caught like a deer in the headlights with nowhere to go in response to the "51st state" remark. That did not stop some provincial leaders like Ontario staunch small "c" Conservative Premier Doug Ford from engaging in their own pushback to save their own positions. Interestingly, Pollievre has been using the "Canada First" slogan in his campaign.
Liberal leader Mark Carney is much worse than Trudeau. Carney's recent business organization has very close ties to the Red Chinese government. While Trudeau was a hanger-on to the globalist WEF in Davos, Carney has served on the WEF's governing board and is very deeply entrenched with them. Carney has also admitted to a leadership role in the much more secretive globalist Bilderberger group. As Governor of the Bank of England, Carney abused his position to promote the anti-Brexit position in the referendum, and he was later identified as a player in the Bank of England's collusion in bringing down Conservative Prime Minister Liz Truss.
Mark Carney would be a whole lot worse for both Canada and the US than even Trudeau was. If Trump had kept his mouth shut on that "51st state" remark, we would not be having to worry about that today as Canadians go to vote in what is being called "the Trump election."

Canada acquired a real migration problem under Trudeau, and arch-globalist Carney was very vulnerable on that. In Quebec which highly values its French heritage is particularly sensitive to that. Both the Conservatives and Bloc Quebequois failed to use that issue aggressively as they should have, probably to avoid being compared to Trump who had pissed off lots of Canadians across the spectrum.

Canadians should have remembered the disaster of Mark Carney as Governor of the Bank of Canada, their central bank. His failed policies gave Canada one of the highest inflation rates in the developed world at the time. He also sold off all of Canada's gold reserves on the cheap and replaced them with US and EU treasury bonds, an awful exchange for for Canada's economy.
As a big time globalist, Carney also is an enemy of free speech and a supporter of mass migration. Real bad news for Canada. Bashing Trump let him hide his own awful record. |
