This could be the moment: HB 193 and the power of Prayer | Eastern North Carolina Now

By Rev. Mark Creech

Dear Friends,

House Bill 193 – Firearm Law Revisions is not just a piece of legislation but a lifeline. It is the solemn, overdue answer to a prayer that’s been rising from the hearts of Christian and private school parents, teachers, and pastors for years:

“Lord, how can we better protect our children?”

This bill does one vital thing - it allows trained, responsible staff at Christian and private schools in North Carolina to be legally armed, prepared, and ready to defend the innocent lives of the children in their care. It gives them the legal means to be guardians, not just educators or administrators. It recognizes the sacred trust placed in those who shepherd our children through their most formative years, and it equips them to stand in the gap when evil rears its ugly head.

HB 193 doesn’t invite violence. It doesn’t turn schools into fortresses. It turns places of faith and learning into places of hope, where those entrusted with precious young lives are not left helpless. It says:

“We will not be caught unprepared. We will not wait for another unthinkable tragedy.”

It is a shield placed in the hands of the willing. It is compassion clothed in courage. It is not political maneuvering - it is love with a backbone.

To stand against HB 193 is to stand idle while danger prowls. To support it is to say with conviction and clarity,

“Not here. Not our children. Not without a fight.”

This is more than law.
It is moral duty.
It is righteous defense.
It is love in action.

Now we must earnestly pray. Please pray.

Members of the North Carolina House may take up HB 193 this week to override the Governor’s veto. What happens next may hinge on political courage and the prayers of God’s people.

Recently, during a week-long Bible conference, I came across a book - one I had never heard of before and which, I believe, has not been widely circulated. It was titled Keys to Successful Praying by Dr. Dan Hummel. In it, I found a powerful reminder of how we are to approach this moment:

“I John 5:14 says, ‘And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us.’ Remember, to have confidence means we have boldness and calm assurance. It means ‘freedom of speech’ to come to our heavenly Father and present our needs to him. Why can we have boldness? Because we have searched the Scriptures and know that what we are asking is not contrary to his will. The prayer that gets through to the Throne of Grace is the prayer that aligns with his will. We are confident of that, and therefore come boldly to the Throne of Grace, ‘that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need’ (Hebrews 14:6).”

Let us take God at His Word.

Let us call on heaven, not with timidity, but with boldness, calm assurance, and freedom of speech - because we know this request is just, it is right, and it is rooted in love.

So again I say: Please pray. Pray for the children. Pray for their protection. Pray for House members to act with duty and moral courage. Pray for HB 193 to become law.

Also, pray that in our efforts to protect life, we honor the One who gives life.

God Bless,

Dr. Mark Creech

The House and Senate both overrode the governor's veto today, making this bill law. Rep. Keith Kidwell was one of the sponsors.
