Kenneth Richard Poorman, Jr. “Kenny,” age 80, a resident of Washington, North Carolina went peacefully to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at East Carolina Heart Institute at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, NC, surrounded by his loved ones.

    A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 1:00pm at the Boyd Family Cemetery on Long Ridge Road in Pinetown, NC officiated by Johnny Pressley of First Church of Christ. Kenny was born July 20, 1945, to the late Kenneth and Lorene Gurkin Poorman.

    In 1964 he graduated from West Carrollton High School in West Carrollton, Ohio. On August 3, 1965, he married his sweetheart Jeanette Jones of West Carrollton, Ohio. Kenny was a man who lived life in the driver's seat. For over 50 years he navigated the nation's highways at first with various trucking companies and later beginning his own Kenny Poorman Trucking, and after his three sons were grown, Kenny Poorman and Sons LLC. His hard work ethic and dedication to his profession were evident in every mile he trenched.

    After retiring in 2021, he enjoyed boating, fishing, biking, traveling with his wife all over the US in his retirement RV, and spending time with his family. He was a lifetime member of Owner Operator Independent Driver's Association. He was a member of First Church of Christ in Washington, NC and he loved his church. He enjoyed helping where he could and spending lots of time with his church, traveling to various places and helping the church feed the hungry through Manna Ministry.

    Kenny is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jeanette; his five children, Kenneth Richard "Ricky" Poorman, III and wife Tracy of Pinetown, Tonya Marie Poorman of Hamilton, Christine Ann Poorman Raines and husband Joe of Cayton, Joseph Allen Poorman and wife Melissa of Bunn, Bryan Edward Poorman of Washington, NC. Also, a surviving sister, Mary Katherine "Kathy" Poorman Jackson-Sharp and husband David of Louisville, Kentucky.

    Kenny was blessed with eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren who he loved and enjoyed dearly.
