The Government Shuts Down. Who's to Blame? | Eastern North Carolina Now

What does it matter? It obviously does to America's remaining World War II veterans.

The deadline to pass the Continuing Resolution in the U.S. Congress to raise the national debt limit came and went, and no one blinked. Candidate Obama continued to campaign, and Hapless Harry Reid swore, in his trademark pansy voice, not to negotiate, and Senator Ted Crux spent 21 hours and 19 minutes exhibiting his oratorical athleticism, and who was the better for all of it?

No one for many Americans, but the Federal government closed anyway to the great chagrin of the multitudes, who depend upon what many believe is becoming far less dependable - your national government.

Some Americans believe that while it is unfortunate that the Federal Government is closed for some of its everyday business, it is far more tragic that their Federal government has obligated itself to more than 17 trillion dollars of crushing national debt, that the Democrat-controlled Senate has not passed a budget in 4 years, and that the executive branch has rendered ObamaCare, a poorly written and stupidly passed law, irreversibly unconstitutional because of the Candidate's unequal application of this tax law. It appears that Candidate felt empowered to confer special dispensations to his cronies, while the rest of America, who are without insurance, must be bound by his signature tax law - the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare).

So what is congress and the Candidate to do? Economist Larry Lindsey, President George W. Bush's director of the National Economic Council (2001–2002), may have said it best: 'absent any real opportunity for any congressional budget negotiations, this is as close as Republicans can get to bringing Democrats to the table to actually consider a budget.'

On the first day of the Federal government shutdown, Candidate Obama, who has the responsibility to decide which services are cut when the congress did not pass to this Continuing Resolution by its looming deadline, elected to close down open air monuments in our Nation's Capital, most notably the World War II memorial. Like when Candidate Obama closed down the public/private funded White House tours after Sequestration, while his monarchical wife continue her lavish and rather extensive travels, this was a rather unpopular executive move.

The long delayed World War II memorial has become hallowed ground to the dwindling heroes of that massive, bitterly violent war that was responsible for the deaths of more than 100 million humans worldwide, fighting in distant countries, and on remote atolls that Candidate Obama could not even begin to pronounce. This first day of the "shutdown", the Candidate closed the World War II memorial; however, his continued effort to extract the most pain for this congressional shutdown was belayed by Republican congressmen, who came to the resue at the memorial, and, by voice vote, elected to open the National Park Service barricades to allow these visiting 91 WWII veterans from Mississippi, many ambulatory by their advanced age, to enter their memorial.

When I am in our nation's Capital, I always go to the World War II memorial, if for no other reason, to be close to my cherished memories of my father, who would often recount, ad infinitum, on his glory days as a young, vibrant hero in that Pacific theater. It was a terrible time of ceaseless Banzai Attacks upon American men, like my father with nothing but his trusted M1 Garand, with 11 full clips, against waves of screaming Japanese infantry, on atolls named Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa; and upon the surrounding seas, where waves of desperate Kamikaze attacks terrorized those U.S. Navy seamen that brought these very young, fine American men to battle for the continuance of our nation's freedom. My father, who fought in the battles of Saipan and Okinawa, took care to make every round count of those short clips of eight .30-06 bullets during those Banzai attacks.

So, Candidate Obama: Your father, who was a communist from Kenya, did not fight in that terrible war, but my father, and so many of others like him did, so leave that monument open. If you possess any measure of decency: Just do it!

We will continue to follow this continuing saga of our dysfunctional government, and their resultant efforts, or lack thereof, that are erupting like an ambivalent cauldron of stupid, and if nothing else, BCN is well acquainted with, and knows well, that terrible affliction of reduced mental acuity in those that would lead and foist those poor effects of their leadership upon our People.
