New York Times poll: 65% of Americans oppose Democrat shutdown of gov't | Eastern NC Now

On the eve of Chuck Schumer shutting down the federal government by refusing a clean 7 weeks stopgap spending resolution, a new poll by the very liberal New York Times finds that 65% of Americans oppose the Democrat shutdown of the government.  Only 27% support the shutdown. The poll was conducted for the newspaper by the Siena Research Institute.

The poll found that even among Democrats, less than half, 47% support their party in this move, while 43% are opposed to their party's action.  Among Republicans, 92% oppose the shutdown, with 5% in support.  Among independents, 59% oppose the shutdown while 32% support it.

This issue may impact the elections for governor in New Jersey and Virginia.  Recent polls have shown the New Jersey race tied, and the Virginia race tightening.  There are particularly a lot of federal jobs in Virginia.

And the Schumer Shutdown begins, with Democrats offering a failed motion to fund health care for illegal aliens. That was followed by a "clean" continuing resolution offered by Republicans, the latter failing 55-45.
