Sheriff Alan Jordan is Still a Scalded Dog | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Sheriff Jordan is still whining and barking about Commissioner Hood Richardson. Jordan is a slow learner. My article printed a couple of months ago pointed out the futility in complaining to the press about how bad Commissioner Richardson is when Jordan is carrying more baggage than a double hump camel. Jordan has scalded himself with his own bad behavior. I guess you have seen that kid in the class who pulled Katie's pigtail and then pointed to another person to lay the blame.

    Big Al, it is not working. The more you yelp the more I am going to recite your defects. The press continues to quote Sheriff Jordan's complaint that Hood Richardson is a trouble maker in the jail. Jordan says he just cannot have a trouble maker in the jail. Big Al, let me be the first to inform you that the jail is full of trouble makers. Looks like Big Al is protective of the people who provide him with a job. Maybe he does not consider prisoners to be trouble makers.

    Jordan has never said what kind of trouble I make. The reason Big Al can not describe the trouble I make is the truth hurts Big Al so badly.

    Big Al went on another empty accusation binge when he got his letter from the county attorney advising him that he was not to interfere with commissioners when we are doing our appointed duty. He tried to practice law when he said he is in charge of the jail. Big Al, the commissioners fund your entire department and we are ultimately responsible for the condition of the jail. You are the administrator of the jail. You may notice those court orders you are so fond of assisting the Judge in writing are directed to the responsible parties who jus happen to be the county commissioners. Your job is to keep prisoners in the jail, not to own it, and not to fund it. The people of Beaufort County do that.

    Big Al does not want me in the jail because I find proof of how inept, inefficient, and slack Jordan is in running "his" jail. Jordan is one of those people who cannot admit he has ever made a mistake, and refuses to accept responsibility for anything,, Sheriff Jordan uses intimidation and bullying by his employees to shush complaints from the public.

    Jordan says he will allow any one to go thru the jail. Call his office and make arrangements. You will find a jail that has been completely reconditioned, with floors and plumbing repaired. The jail has been painted. You will be faced with a dilemma. Should you believe the sheriff about the condition of the jail or what you actually see? There is very little if any opportunity for prisoners to reach thru bars, the mattresses are new and the place is clean. Jordan does not want you to see this because you will probably conclude that we do not need a new jail. The county commissioners fixed the jail after Big Al failed to keep it clean and in good repair.

    Jordan has not been able to shut down my whistle blowing. He stopped appearing before the county commissioners more than three years ago because he could not stand to have questions asked about how he runs his department. Questions about the number of employees, where they are assigned, the number of cars and guns his department has and the status of criminal narcotics use not only made Big Al uncomfortable, they infuriated him. Big Al would become nervous, turn red and start fidgeting. So, he started sending his chief deputy. The Democrats and RINO's (Republicans In Name Only) have never held Jordan accountable for the operation of his department. That is why I get a lot of calls about irregularities in the Sheriff's Department. Complaints range from abuse of employees to accusations about failure to maintain the confidentiality of informants and failure to investigate crimes.

    Big Al is trying to hide the fact that he operated the jail for almost one year without testing the dedicated back up generator used to open cell doors during power outages. Big Al is supposed to start this generator and actually open and close some doors to make sure it is working properly. I exposed this information by visiting the jail.

    Big Al did not see to it that the plumbing was repaired at all. I discovered this when I visited the jail along with other commissioners and the county manager. Big Al did not even request that repairs be made. There is a method in Big Al's madness. The worse condition the jail is in the closer Big Al comes to getting a new one.

    Big Al never complained about the long term confinement of prisoners. The more the merrier. Over crowding helps Big Al get a new jail.

    The third and last time Big Al had me thrown out of the jail was because I told him it is a violation of the court order and state law to deliberately over crowd the jail. Big All insisted on putting 101 prisoners in a jail permitted to hold 85 prisoners. He was doing this deliberately so he could get a new jail. Big Al became abusive, started calling me names and put his deputies on me because he believes he is above the law.

    I ask you. If you were Big Al, King of the County, violator or the law, a scalded dog, would you want me in your jail?

    Big Al got his ego bruised again when he learned that the sheriff cannot remove county commissioners from office under any circumstances but county commissioners can remove sheriffs for cause. Alan Jordan and his supporters have run a campaign for years saying he was the most powerful person in Beaufort County. What an ego trip, what an ego rush. What a lack of judgement.

    Jordan has never been able to describe the trouble I make in the jail. I have abundantly described the trouble Jordan makes in the jail. If his administration of the jail is this bad, what about the rest of the Sheriff's Department? Jordan is a scalded dog, no substance, just yelp, yelp, yelp...
