Comments for Incompetence Reigns on the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners

On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, there occurred a Special Called Meeting of the Beaufort County Commissioners regarding possible land acquisition for the Beaufort County Schools due to their inadequate planning at the most essential level.

Stan, let me play Nostradamus for you.
Whatever you, Tandy and Hood vote For, the others will vote against!!
Its Known, Known!

Just being kind, I would label them "Mr. Opposites."
If I could make bets on knowing how they will vote, I would become a millionaire.

p.s. When it comes to Govt officials locally...Follow the money.

Washingtonian: These "wise" decisions are made by the Center-Left Coalition far ahead of the open session meetings; notice from the meeting's video how few questions these Center-Left politicians answered, when asked by myself and Commissioner Richardson.

These "bipartisan" commissioners do not work well under the same strain of scrutiny that publicly elected officials are expected to withstand.

This is odd.
AT the last special meeting of the Commissioners, it was stated that the the schools system didnt realize that they didnt own that land back on July 2024. Strange, that this is the date that appears on the "history of ownership" webpage showing that the City had become the "new owners"... on that date. What's up with that?

On a personal note. If I were abt to agree to a $500,000 contract, I would tell the other party that I need to sleep on it. AND, I'll bet u that if that $500,000 was coming out of the 4 Commissioners pocket, they'd say the same.

Easy come, easy go, when its other people's money.
Time to follow the money!
Whose getting rich in these deals? Who is "working" the system?

Steed: I questioned the incredible reasoning that a Durham based lawyer was not responsible for a simple title search on this land so conveniently purchased by the Center-Left Coalition.
Commented: Sunday, January 26th, 2025 @ 8:56 am By: Stan Deatherage
This is the very reason all school boards hire a school board attorney. When major projects like this come along, they stay on top of things legally. Our superintendant has conned our school board into hiring an attorney from Durham, who is not here locally to do things like that. My guess is that to save money, the superintendant did not bring him in on this project like he should have been and that the superintendant himself incompetently played lawyer or had another school bureaucrat do that. Our school board is responsible for that, at least the ones who had a vote on hiring this Durham lawyer. They should have known better but just rubberstamped Boss Cheeseman's wishes.

Washingtonian: A public explanation should be in order.

At the next general meeting, I will ask the new Beaufort County Board Attorney to perform a "simple title search." which will be like closing the barn door after the horse has galloped off ...

You see Washingtonian: When the feckless Center-Left Coalition is on to something stupid, they generally stay "stuck on stupid" until the obvious fruition of completing the act of stupid.

It would, however, be appropriate in shining a public light on this sorry issue in open meeting.

According to the online Real Property Data webpage, History of Ownership, the first owner was WASHINGTON CITY SCHOOL ADM UNIT, they owned this land from Jan. 01,1753 to July 15,2024, when the land was transferred to City of WAshington. That's according to this webpage. How can this be?

But also if one goes to Book 630 page 53 where this same "ownership history" webpage claims we can find the deed, it shows a deed dated August 15, 1968 between The Redevelopment Commission of Washington and sold to the City of WAshington,NC. It is wrong date and wrong seller.

Did the Registrar of deeds lose a deed? Did Registrar also type in the wrong date?? Is anything else missing?

Where is the July 15,2024 deed describing the transfer? It doesnt appear to show in the online index of deeds. Even more important, if the school system needed th land, why would it give it to th city?

I think the State Auditor should be notified.

Van Zant: By showing support for disloyal "Republicans" on such a large scale, for such a long time, the Beaufort County GOP is complicit in this unnatural behavior of abject RINOism.

Stan: The politics of 4 to 3. Of that 4 majority, 2 are Democrats and 2 are Democrats that changed registration to Republican in order to get elected. Essentially, they are 4 Democrats. But you know that more than most.

The mind-blowing thing about this is, the local Republican Party supports the alliance with the Democrats and opposes the 3 Republicans on the county commission adhering to the Republican platform. In other words, the official local Republicans support the undocumented Democrat commissioners instead of the Republican commissioners.

All this personal vendetta politics is costing taxpayers money and worse. It's so crazy it's almost unbelievable. Throw in the familial relations between the various boards and a school superintendent working on his professional resume at local folk's expense and it really gets convoluted. But no worries, it's only hard-earned public money.

Van Zant: In that meeting, on that day, there were those that had a collusive plan to waste 1/2 a million dollars, and there were your 3 Conservative commissioners ready to solve this grand error of incompetence by spending no additional tax dollars.

On this day, the compounded incompetence of the Center-Left Coalition won out.

W: Due to the matrimonial relations between some of the various board members I suspect some members had a lot more knowledge of what as up than others. There's no telling how tangled this web really is.

Washingtonian: No Recall Elections in NC. No recent deed since this land was not traded in recent times.

No one knows exactly what happened since there is no title search in modern history, and no one, with a full working brain, constructs any dwelling without a title search, but ... The Beaufort County Schools did, and it just cost the beaufort County Taxpayers 500,000.00.

Can Beaufort Citizens do a Recall election and fire these Commissioners who voted so carelessly to waste our tax dollars?
With little to No deep thought at all they rushed to a vote? Why?

Must we go all the way to Durham to find an attorney capable of suing the County and City Govt?

Is it possible for the local people to create a DOGE Dept to protect our tax dollars from the big spending local govt?

Did you know the parcel is NOT 4 acres. Its abt 9.5 acres. Does the land has more value as a whole 9.5 acres than it does of just 4. WHO is doing the survey to divide the parcel? Who decides where to divide it?

Did anyone seek to verify with the City that $500,000 was their final price? Maybe $500,000 was for the whole 9 acres.

According to the online Real Property data webpage, WASHINGTON CITY SCHOOL ADM UNIT owned this land prior to July 15,2024, when the land was transferred to City of WAshington.

Why is there No deed available to be viewed??

Well Bubba we still dont know what is the tax value of the 4 acres, as listed on the County's Tax Dept's webpage for tax records.

Can someone with the County Govt, such as Hood, or Stan, or Tandy... or any of the rest of them for that matter, just post here the parcel number for the 4 acres that is about to be sold by the City for $500,000 per the demand of the City manager... so that I can look it up myself???? Inquiring minds want to know... NEED to know!!
Surely if you (the Govt) are buying it, you ought to know the deed description of what you are buying.

Like I said, if the Commissioners were paying out of their own pocket, they would have taken MORE TIME, and asked a whole lot more questions about the documented tax value as determined by the Tax office itself.

Yeah Will Simmons: That is an image I am proud to NOT BE SEEN in.

I have voted against every aspect of this ill conceived misadventure, but I did vote for the 4 acre swap to get these fools out of trouble; however ...

There was NO shame to found as they wasted yet another $500,000.00.

I’m for real dying right now just catching up on the details about this whole farce of an operation.

If you wanna build a structure, wouldn’t you think that being the owner of the land where it was to be constructed would be an essential starting component? Not this crowd, they got bows on the gold shovels and news cameras flashing, throwing a ceremony to dig a hole on property they don’t even own.

What a bunch of a pompous jackass. Bunch of come when you call, no brains at all types.

What a shame that other than the few, the majority of our county leaders have demonstrated their breathtaking ignorance in all affairs.

They plan a multimillion dollar construction as if it were a playground kickball game.

Who exactly stands to benefit from the $500,000 in this government to government transaction? Of course not the citizen I know. Lot of money going this way and the other. Who is in charge of keeping track of it all? Hopefully not our appraiser, his figures are a little questionable.

Like I said before, these buzzards have come to pick us clean.

As a county commissioner, I went into that meeting fully believing that the Center-Left Coalition would have swapped 4 acres at NO COST rather than obligate the Beaufort County Taxpayers for a HALF a MILLION dollars to buy unneeded property.

I reckon I was wrong for giving the Center-Left Coalition a modicum of credit for possibly having moderately working brains. I often give far too much credit to the political opposition.

Hopefully, this will be the last time that I do so.

Everything that comes out of Cheeseman stinks and is full of holes.
Commented: Thursday, January 23rd, 2025 @ 8:35 pm By: Will Simmons
I wish a commissioner had asked Cheeseman that question about the tax value of the property during the commissioner meeting. I stonrgly suspect he would have had no clue waht it was.

The buzzards spotted this crowd from 10 miles out

I tried to warn you.

Someone needs to pull rank and put the brakes on this blooper before they engineer the taxpayer slam under the table.

LandGlide says the property at 947 Hudnell St is 38.25 acres all owned by Washington City School Adm Unit.

The market value of the land is $6,150,609.

The actual land value is $1,021,854.
The building value is $5,128,755; but that building is to be demolished so this value is non applicable.

$1,021,854 / 38.25 = $26,715.14 per acre land value (laymen’s estimate)
