Taxpayers will bare the cost of incompetent planning for building the new school

Does anyone know any Attorneys who arent afraid of the City and County Managers?

Surely, the logic of this project does not follow, but the reasons why this is a flawed process do follow.

Yesterday, when discussing this issue with the Superintendent, I offered many explanations in the form of effusive non sequiturs.

Stan: Seems to me the Beaufort County School Board missed that boat a long time ago. It also appears to me the Superintendent never cared to touch that base before rushing into this project. Maybe there should have been less grinning with giant education lotto checks and posing with hard hats and golden shovels. Instead, there should have been more real work being done in planning this scheme.

Van Zant: That all sounds about right ... sadly.

I was told by the Superintendent, yesterday in open session of the Beaufort County Commissioners, while on budget retreat, the answer to my request for elusive the title search, with whatever notes that can provided, is: 'It may be provided if approved by the Beaufort County School Board.

Ok. Is this the way this all went down?

1) The Beaufort County School system thought they owned all the land at the Eastern Elementary School site where the demolition and construction are to be.
2) They found out after the fact that they did not own all of the land.
3) Initially, the School system thought they had a gentleman's agreement with the City of Washington to use the land.
4. The City of Washington reneged on the agreement and decided to demand a land exchange involving the City of Washington gaining Kugler Field or P.S. Jones Park or a half million dollars.
5) The County School Board did not officially specify any preferred direction but offered to pay half the money (a quarter of a million dollars).
6) Then, the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners by a 4 to 3 vote decided to pay the money to the City of Washington instead of the land swap.

If that is it, this has got darned near everything, including incompetence and greed.

I should clarify that I was not calling these elected officials snakes. I was using the story as an analogy.

If u were to ask me, I'd say that all those elected officials who show no curiosity or, ask deep questions about what they are about to vote for, are just "useful idiots," acting as ignorant rubber stampers, because they are just too lazy or too stupid to care about how their vote affects the citizens they are supposed to defend.

Everyone with eyes knows who they are. judge them accordingly.

Remember Trump's story about the snake? Why do we keep voting for them in each election? We know how they are from their past performance.

Sadly, The Hood speaks a big bunch of truth on just how badly "incompetence reigns" here in Beaufort County government - www.beaufortcountynow.com
