The National Debt Limit | Eastern North Carolina Now

    County Commissioners are the lowest ranking elected officials empowered to make laws and levy taxes. These are essentially the same things the big boys do in Raleigh and Washington. I am a county commissioner. Thus, I believe my view from the bottom of the barrel is somewhat insightful.

    Almost all of what we see and hear about raising or lowering the debt limit is confusing. It seems that common sense, honesty and the Constitution no longer exist. Our national leaders and the majority in both the Democrat and Republican party leadership want you to be confused, and ignorant to the point of not understanding the true issues. The leadership of both parties is deliberately evading a public debate about the true issue. At the end of the day there is only one issue, and this issue trumps all others in the small minds of unprincipled and disloyal politicians. That issue is THE POWER TO RULE.

    At this moment the Democrats are the most powerful. They control the presidency and the Senate. The House is controlled by Republicans. But, a lot of those Republicans are in sympathy with the Democrats. Only the conservative, constitutionally principled Tea Party Republicans are opposed to the collective group of Democrats and liberal Republicans. There are enough tea party, conservative Republicans to keep the House from having the votes necessary to allow the president and the Senate, to have their way. Their way is to raise the debt limit, and over ride the sequester along with all the other things

    President Obama is demanding.

    Eliminating sequester and increasing the debt limit is of immense importance to Obama and the Democrats. Should the Democrats be forced to reduce the amount of benefits, hand outs, welfare, unearned income tax credits and the number of food stamp recipients they will erode their political base. These are the payoffs that are keeping them in power. In order to remain in power, Obama and the Democrats have to not only continue to deliver but to increase the handout. Obama Care is going to provide at least 20 million additional free insurance policies to low or no income individuals. In addition, greed demands the amount of government free money continues to increase each year. If Democrats continue to increase the handout they will remain in power until the nation is bankrupt. Raising the debt limit and continuing Obama Care is incredibly important to the Democrats.

    On the other hand, the Republicans are weak and squeamish about bringing these welfare issues up for public debate because the national press paints them as being cruel and without compassion for the poor. These issues are not about the truly poor. They are about continuing Obama socialism. Republican leadership has not been willing to develop counter arguments in part because of the RINO, Republican In Name Only, faction within the Republican Party So, we continue to borrow money to pay into the bottomless pit of all the various welfare programs. This vote buying will ultimately lead to national bankruptcy.

    We are back to what drives our national lunacy. That is THE POWER TO RULE. Beginning with the end of the Eisenhour Presidency both parties banded together and passed laws on the state and federal levels for their mutual survival. This is why we do not have newly formed political parties. Democrats do not want to have open public debate on the debt limit and Obama Care because they do not have a need. They have already used government money to buy their votes. Why embarrass their supporters by reminding them they are part of a corrupt system. Republicans do not want a public debate because they think they will loose some of their supporters for being mean and cruel. Republicans are, as usual, playing into the hands of the Democrats. Republicans should look at he last presidential election. It was failure to stand up for what is right and trying to be a nice guy that defeated Romney. Republican voters stayed at home because they could not see a difference between the candidates and they certainly did not see a constitutional commitment on the part of Republicans. Failing to stand up for honesty, the constitution and the principles that made our nation great is always a mistake.

    It was music to the ears of the Republican leadership and liberal Republicans when Obama announced that he would not debate, or negotiate anything until he got what he wanted. Now both sides could keep the ugly truth in the closet. There has not been an organized strategy by either the Senate or House leadership to challenge the Democrats and Obama. Normally there would be speakers in both the House and Senate presenting a well coordinated campaign addressing a variety of issues which would have over powered the liberal press and awaken the public to the importance of national bankruptcy, unfair taxes and the national welfare disgrace. None of this happened. Why? Because the liberal Republican leadership is afraid they may loose votes in up coming elections. I ask you, why would the public vote for this kind of lousy leadership? Both parties think they have an advantage in avoiding debate. Only one party has good judgement on this and it is not the Republican Party.

    Only after a thorough house cleaning can the Republican Party move fore ward. That has to come during the 2014 elections. Turing out of office liberal yellow bellies like Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham along with a host of others all the way down to RINO county commissioners like Al Klemm will be required to return principle to the Republican Party.

    Some Democrats are gleefully saying when the national debt is raised the Republican Party should purge the Tea Party Republicans. Either way this issue goes, I am predicting the RINO's are going to suffer.

    Another reason liberal Republicans will not stand up and fight is they expect the same power structure enjoyed by the Democrats should lightning strike and the get into power. The Republican leadership from top to bottom is preaching "Get into line and blindly support our hand picked candidates". Sounds like a Democrat chant doesn't it.
