Press Release:

WASHINGTON, D.C.     Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) again asserted his support of the American right to privacy in the face of the government's unnecessary surveillance of law-abiding citizens  -  particularly through the activities of the National Security Agency (NSA). Congressman Jones is a cosponsor of the USA FREEDOM Act, which would end the mass collection of American telephone records under Section 215 of the Patriot Act and increase the transparency of the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC or FISA Court).

"The American people's right to privacy has been continually eroded by this administration," said Congressman Jones. "Passage of legislation such as the USA FREEDOM Act would be an important step in demanding accountability from a government that has broken the trust of the American people and shown a blatant disregard for their liberty. I will continue to be a staunch advocate for privacy and work to end the government's unfortunate history of infringing on the constitutional rights of the citizens it is meant to serve."

Congressman Jones has voted against every reauthorization and extension of the Patriot Act since it became law in 2001 and has been a consistent champion of limiting government surveillance of the American people  -  including voting against CISPA, SOPA, and the FISA Amendments Act.
