Press Release:

Following a narrow defeat in her run for NC House Representatives for District 6 in 2012, long-time Republican and Dare County resident Mattie Lawson has maintained an active role in local issues of concern to Eastern North Carolina citizens. District 6 covers the northern portion of Beaufort County, all of Hyde County, part of Washington County and all of Dare County.

Attached photo was taken February 13th at the Dare County Board of Elections office in Manteo, NC. Included are members of Mattie Lawson’s Dare County campaign support team: Dare County GOP Chair Browny Douglas, Bob Marquis ("FairTax Bob"), Lawson’s son Duane Thompson owner of LoWire Technologies, Dare County GOP At-Large Member and 2013 Southern Shores mayoral candidate Susan Dineen, activist Margarette Umphlett, Campaign Treasurer Toni Tabb and active supporter Jack Dineen. Also present, acting as photographer, was Kill Devil Hills GOP Precinct Chair and 2013 Kill Devil Hills Commissioner candidate Beverly Boswell.
At this time, in this relentless economic recession, North Carolina needs to be enabling our law-abiding citizens to find good jobs and to keep the jobs they already have. Her passions include reducing the excessive, punitive fishing regulations and fines imposed on our hardworking North Carolina seafood providers. Certainly, allowing North Carolina’s wide variety of natural resources to be harvested as healthy food for our local consumers thereby adding to local revenues while conserving our unique abundance of fresh caught seafood are not contradictory activities.

North Carolina’s commitment to Common Core, the copyrighted education standards causing uproars across the nation due to the inappropriateness of their material for young students, the draconian way they were forced upon our students and unfairly tying the hands or our very able teachers must be stopped before more damage is done. We want our children educated, not trained like little mindless robots. As Americans we expect our Constitutions to protect our liberties so we can live free to work, to enjoy the fruits of our labors and to fulfill our dreams.

Sadly, the American dream is slipping away under the growing burden of our increasingly intrusive big government. Follow her campaign on Facebook at Lawson Reclaiming the Dream 2014. The Lawson4House website will be available in March.

"I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it (the control) from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power."(Thomas Jefferson)
